Stuarts Draft VA
Here is what I have.

1. Clarke County: 261 26.100

2. Central Woodstock: 232 25.778

3. Robert E. Lee: 226 25.111

4. Luray: 219 24.333

5. East Rockingham: 203 22.556

6. George Mason: 157 19.625

7. Buffalo Gap: 172 19.111

8. Stuarts Draft: 167 18.556

9. Strasburg: 164 18.222

As for the playoffs, since my team is so close I went and tried to figure things out the best I could with a few guesses, and Stuarts Draft is in a win or go home game. If the Cougars do win, they can move as high as 6th.

Now if both Stuarts Draft and Strasburg win, that leaves Buffalo Gap on the outside looking in.

If Stuarts Draft and Strasburg both lose, then Strasburg is the 8th seed

Clarke does not play Handley tomorrow, played earlier in season, Clarke played their last regular season game last night, bye next week.

Strasburg plays Central next Friday, can't see Strasburg winning that game.

Northern VA Daily wrote yesterday that if Central won their last two games then they would finish as #1 seed.

Handley plays today, so they either get 0 or 2 rider points.

Strasburg will get more points next week then Stuarts Draft meaning they would pass them.

I didn't go all the way out on what would happen

The Region B Tournament is going to be a slugfest. Any of the top 4 could win the whole thing and I wouldn’t be overly surprised with upsets in the first round outside of George Mason.

I don't see how Central would be number 1 seed if it is based on power points. How many would they get for beating 2A Strasburg? It would have to be 29 or more points, and I don't understand for the life of me how the points work. If it's based on record, yeah, Central should be #1 seed. Either way, Clarke won't have to play them in the first round, so that makes me happy!

Rider points could put them in excess of the 29 points you mentioned. I don’t know since I haven’t looked but they should get two more rider points from RH if they can beat Page. Not sure who else they would possibly get those riders from but it is not unheard of to accumulate 10 riders in that last week and that is addition to the points they get from the game they are in. Just my .02

Yeah, I don't know how those points work at all, not how they are awarded or how they are accumulated, and I don't even know how to add them all up. Just hoping that a numbers guru around here knows.

They will get 18 points for beating Strasburg and 2 points for every win that Strasburg has. I will assume 4 wins so that is 8 points. That puts them at 26 for that game alone. Then you go back and give them 2 points for every game a defeated opponent wins this week. I am going to assume 2 for the RH over Page game, so that alone puts them at 28 points and they have 7 other opponents that can contribute if any of them win. So the likelihood is that Central will be the number one with an outside chance of Lee moving to 2 depending on outcomes. It is a long long shot though

The riders are supposed to be an incentive to play tougher opponents so you get rewarded for their winning.

The other thing to remember is that Clarke will be collecting riders as well depending on the outcome of games involving teams they have defeated so it will be close for sure. Gotta support the teams you beat all year in the end, lol.

I hope some of this helped, I get confused too so I am by no means a numbers guru.

Hey, you explained it better to me than I've been able to understand on my own, so it's all good, thanks!

Along that line then, would Clarke accumulate more rider points if Dominion (4a) wins than if another 2a we beat wins? That is, does Clarke receive bonus rider points if a 4a team they beat wins? I hope I'm asking this correctly, because I don't even understand what I'm asking.

No they dont. 2 points per win no matter the classification

here is how it will break down...
point 1. If Central wins v strasburg...
1 seed comes down to the rider points from the warren @ skyline game, warren wins clarke is 1 seed, skyline wins central is 1 seed

point 2. the luray/ east rock game will determine who hosts the rematch next week as luray and east rock are essentially locked into 4/5 game

point 3. barring some huge upsets seeding will break down as follows

1 clarke/central
8 strasburg

4/5 luray/east rock

3 Lee
6 mason

2 clarke/central
7 gap

here is a link to the breakdown as i guess it will happen

here is a link to make your own copy of the google sheet (you will need a google account to play around with it) that i use to calculate the points.

if you only change the W's and L's in the last column you can use this sheet to play out any scenarios you would like.

Enjoy!!!

I admire you or anyone else who tries to decipher all of this. If it turns out exactly the way you have described it, we will have one disappointed school here in our area, the Stuarts Draft Cougars. Some local sources still have them finishing in the 8 spot ahead of Strasburg. If you are right, apparently they have to beat R E Lee on Friday and if they do not, then they will be out, despite playing some very close games with some other playoff-bound teams.

That would be a shame because I can promise you Draft is better than George Mason and Strasburg. Strasburg is actually more talented than Mason. It's a numbers game but it's definitely better than the prior format with so many teams getting in.

16 teams from East and 16 teams from West make it to playoffs. Same as last year soo what is different this year?

This is the math as it is set by the VHSL. It will come down to the rider points from each teams schedule for quite a few spots. Will come down to 3 points to separate the teams in and out.

Last year the top 16 teams from East and 16 West get in. This year, it's true, 16 get in but now it's the top 8 from each region, so a weaker region sends teams at lower seeds that may not be as high as teams that do t make the playoffs in a stronger region. For example, right now Bruton and Brunswick both get in with 16.11 and 16.37 points in a weak 2A. Strasburg in 2B does not get in with 18.44. Last year Strasburg is in.

Draft controls their destiny, if they beat Lee they will be in. Even without that win, they still have a chance if Wilson can beat Gap, draft would be 8, Strasburg 7, and Gap would be out.

Draft better hope they can beat Lee then, because I honestly don't see Wilson coming close to Gap.

This Draft matchup actually concerns me as a Lee fan, especially with Draft's playoff hopes on the line tonight. Each game Draft has lost has been by a touchdown or less with the exception of last week vs Luray and nobody has played Luray within 1 TD with Jenkins playing this year... I think Draft has just enough grit and athleticism, along with some extra playoff incentive, to cause some problems tonight. I hope I am wrong, but I would not be surprised to see a dogfight that could go either way like the Lee/Gap game went down.

I think from my calculations that he is wrong. Draft win and in, loss and out. What I come up with is that IF my Cougars and the Bison both were to lose, they would end up tied, and head to head would give it to gap

here is the sheet changed for the wilson win

Shoot, here I am HOPING my team gets in even if they lose, and IF Gap loses, I didn't add the 1 extra point. But then there is also the possibility of PM winning, which then changes it. Gap won't lose, so we just need to go ahead and win tonight

I think Stuarts Draft has a MUCH better chance of beating Lee than Wilson has of beating Buffalo Gap or Strasburg has of beating Central. So I think the only news that matters will come out of Staunton tonight.

I agree. So you just be crossing your fingers for the Cougars. Even if you want to put those crosses in an x... x cross lol

In all seriousness, my RHS gang and I will be checking scores and pulling for the Draft to get the job done. That is because Lee is already in and we would much rather see five Shenandoah teams in that playoff field than to have a Strasburg team sneak in the back door that doesn't sound as if they will be capable of making much noise in the playoffs.

Ha!!!, I'm not a Strasburg fan, and could care less if they make the playoffs, but if they beat an unbeaten Central team, they certainly deserve to make the playoffs.
