Region B Quarterfinals: Riverheads 55 Franklin 42 nm

First of all, thanks for posting all these scores.

Grant Painter drilled a deep triple on the Gladiators' first possession and they led wire to wire tonight, although Franklin had just enough athleticism and height advantage to hang in there, especially for most of the first half. Grant scored the first 7 points to stake RHS to an early 7-2 lead before little brother Adam, who reportedly was under the weather, drilled three triples in fairly short order to help the cause.

Adam's second triple put the Gladiators ahead 16-8 to open the second quarter but Franklin answered with an 8-0 run to tie things up at 16. However a third triple from Adam and one from Zach Adams pushed RHS back ahead and they moved out to a 13 point halftime lead. Those three sharpshooters combined tonight for eight triples as that was a key part of the Gladiator offense.

The Pride stretched the lead out to as many as 19 in the second half as the Broncos could never make a second run to get back into it. With the win the Gladiators advance to the regional semi-final on Thursday against Carver Academy which blew out Rappahannock County tonight. RHS and Carver have traded relatively close wins the last two years so this will be the rubber match between the two, and of course a berth in the state tournament will be on the line.

Before that, also at Riverheads, the Lady Gladiators will play tomorrow night (Wednesday) against Cumberland in their regional semi-final, so they too will be playing for a state berth. Both Gladiator squads made the state tournament last year and would like to make return visits.

Didn't see Robinson, the Riverheads big man, in the box score. Still out with injury? If so, that might limit their chances moving forward.
