As far as I know, the 4 Regions in Class 2 have NOT officially decided to send 8 teams to the playoffs. I have no information on which to base this, but an 8 team per region seems like a logical choice.

Assuming this will be the format, pick the 8 teams that YOU think will be playoff bound after 10 regular season games. I know that this can be a little tough, since only about 1/3 of the teams have released their full schedules.

Pick your teams in order of #1 to #8. And keep this in mind when you rank your teams, VHSL points!
A 6-4 team could well be ranked #2 or #3 because of points.

And, pick one, and only one #9 wildcard team that you think could very well make the playoffs if the stars line up.

This list is in alphabetical order, and comes from the VHSL website.

REGION D, 13 Schools

JOHN BATTLE
CENTRAL WISE
GATE CITY
GRAHAM
GRAYSON
LEBANON
LEE
MARION
RICHLANDS
RIDGEVIEW
TAZEWELL
UNION
VIRGINIA

I'll go
1. Union
2. Richlands
3. Graham
4. Gate City
5-8 Doesn't matter. But if I were to guess, It would be something like this:
5. Lee
6. Marion
7. Virginia
8. Ridgeview

9. Central

Dark horse is Graham for me. I hear they are getting a couple of transfers from Abingdon and a couple from Bluefield. All of which are good athletes. If this is true, Graham moves up to #2 or #1 for me. I guess we will see who shows up for practice.

I heard the rumor about a couple of kids from Abingdon, too.

I feel good about the top 3, but 4 through 9 are a crapshoot

To be the man, you have to beat the man, so I'll go with Richlands until someone knocks them off. They'll lose a few games this year early on (tough early schedule with a very new offensive cast could mean some sputtering out of the gate with Union, Blacksburg, and William Byrd in back to back to back games), but this defense is going to be lights out with all the talent they return. Transfers will only add to that.

I believe Union and Graham are neck and neck. Union has Mitchell, but it'll be interesting to see what else they have when the season starts. Replacing a lot of key parts on both sides. Graham is similar. They have talent returning, but there will be some new faces in key roles.

I think the top 3 are pretty much set. Richlands having two 4A schools will help them in the standings even if they lose to both Blacksburg and Byrd.

Should be a fun season.

Your #9?

I can see Tazewell getting enough points to be #9. Maybe even squeaking into the playoffs. I was looking at some schedules and I think they have 6 winnable games on their schedule. Whether or not they win all 6 is the big question. I think they'll go something like 4-6 and miss the playoffs. They will lose big to Bluefield, Richlands and Graham.
