Two district showdowns this week could decide the Blue Ridge and Seminole distrct's regular season winners. Lord Botetourt travels to Low Moor to play Alleghany, I think Wednesday--not sure (both are presently tied and have other legue games today) while Jefferson Forest (9-1; 13-3) hosts unbeaten Amherst (10-0; 17-0) tonight. Rustburg presently trails those two at 7-4 in the league. In the Valley, Spotswood (9-1) has two chances to win the RS title with a game today vs. Fort Defiance (5-6), the only team in the district to beat the Blazers. Then they travel to Waynesboro Thursday to finish the season. The tournament is still supposed to start on Friday.
Turner Ashby (8-3) will be seeded second if it beats cellar-dweller RE Lee today. If Waynesboro (6-4) can win at Harrisonburg today, it gets 3rd place. Broadway (6-6) clinches 4th if Fort loses to Spotswood. The Gobblers could improve to 3rd, if the Little Giants drop both of their remaining games because the Gobblers swept the Giants this season outscoring WHS 20-0, including a game last week that was moved to Broadway but was still played in a mud bog. After first-round games at the higher seeds, the rest of the tourney moves to Ray Heatwole Field in Bridgewater, for the semis next Tuesday, and possible consolation and championship on Thursday. Fort was going to be the host, but instead will be undertaking a long-needed revamping of the football field with bermuda surface as well as the baseball field at the same time.
