The news has come out that "Chick" Crawford, who I believe won state championships at both Luray and Parry McCluer, has died at age 80. I was reluctant to bring it up on here because so far the newspaper has only listed the name, and not published an actual obituary, and it was listed by his given name of Claude with no reference to the nickname.
But I have asked around and received confirmation that it was indeed him. He was living here in the Fishersville area of Augusta County. I did not know him personally but had seen him around within the last few years and he appeared to still be in good health. The guy knew his stuff on the basketball court.
