Stuarts Draft VA
First off, congratulations to Richlands on a great win. I have read all the talk about the game and was asked my opinion so here it goes, not trying to offend anyone. I will discuss a few things I heard from others as well.

The talk before the game was the size of the stadium and number of fans coming. There wasn't more (maybe less) fans than the Stuarts Draft/Riverheads game last game of regular season. Yes I know there should be since they are less than 10 miles apart, but from the chatter I was expecting this HUGE crowd.

The 2 calls in question looked correct from my vantage point, and I do probably have a better overall view than most being in the press box. He is a kid and made a couple mistakes, no reason at all to call him a thug. I also would like to say that the ones on here talking about how one sided the officiating was, well most of those penalties were on offsides penalties where the Richlands player was lining up offsides. 2 others were of course the 2 unsportsmanlike penalties, 2 consecutive illegal procedures, and 1 block in back that I remember. Couldnt tell you which one or anything, but one of the radio stations guy calling the game was extremely biased. Every flag shouldnt have been a flag, Richlands only ones getting flags, even when a flag would come out it was "what did they call us for now." I know every radio station would be somewhat biased, but this was worst I can remember and I have been up there for quite a few years

Another thing that I heard talked about after the game was the band playing the entire time SD had the ball. I noticed it, but didn't bother me. I figured that was something done in SWVA?

I also read on here that Richlands played their worst all season, and have bunch of TO's. Well every one of those TO's were caused by SD. The pick 6 he came out of nowhere and perfectly read the pass and took it in. The other interceptions were while JLA was getting hit. The one fumble I recall was simply stripped and recovered.

Onto the game, I was impressed with some parts of Richlands. The QB is a ball player, so were a few of the receivers and the defense played pretty good. I do not think that the best/most deserving team won the game, but thats how it goes sometimes. If it makes any sense, Richlands (in my opinion) didn't deserve the win, but they did deserve that last drive.

Now with Richlands outgaining Stuarts Draft by so much, well Draft is more of a defensive team and Richlands is offensive team. That didn't surprise me. One thing that I did notice is 75% or more of the time, JLA only looks at one guy, or did today. His eyes were focused on him the entire time. He is a very good football player and you fans should be proud. I know all of our community is incredibly proud of the Cougars. They started as teammates, and have ended as brothers. This was a real TEAM. No superstars, everything as a team.

With all that said, again congratulations to Richlands on a great win and greater comeback. It was an incredible game that could have went either way and shame someone had to lose, even bigger shame it was my Cougars haha. Good Luck next week against Appomattox, sounds like you may need it

Wow gunz i respect your decision but totally disagree with you. Richlands only allowed 2 offensive tds with one being with great field position from a muffed snap by the backup punter and the other the cb slipped in coverage. Richlands had double yardage, tons of penalties that put you guys in good situations, and had to drive the length of the field on just about every drive. Plus 2 of those ints were in the receivers hands that were tipped to the defender. Again i respect your opinion so we can just agree to disagree, but the better team definately won.

Of course that was just my opinion on the game, I'm sure at least half the people disagree. A lot of the yardage came on the scoring drives, and like I said SD defense is what got them where they were. Not saying Richlands isn't a great team and I think they were about as close to possible as teams could be. I don't remember how many INT there were, but the pick six was a great play, another was caused by hit on qb and right to defender, and other I remember was tipped.

SD came out a bit nervous I believe and didn't play well 1st qtr to half. And didn't make the Mistakes or forced to make the mistakes is why I think they deserved to win. No sour grapes or anything, as I said both deserved to win, and RIchlands won. Sad to see this great team finished now. Congratulations to Richlands again.

Not trying to be apprehensive but Draft D was great this year, but how did JLA throw for 450 yards? I cant remember a game in 2A with that kind of passing. Sure it has happened but I dont remember. Surprised at score after reading that stat. But hey, Im a Redskins fan. Kirk Cousins will throw for 500 yards and we still lose.

There were also two long touchdown passes dropped in the first quarter, those happen and it's a completely different outcome.

I agree on the pick 6 from Peck. It was a hard throw to make and it took too long to get there and #1 made agreat play and jumped the route.

You are a foolish tool. You felt the better team didn't deserve to win. Hey dumb tool, Richlands doubled them in total yards, had four turnovers, and 16 penalties to their 3. The better team clearly won even though it played as bad as possible and SD played nearly perfect.

There were drops on both sides. But Richlands did just enough at the end to pull it out between 2 evenly matched teams

When 1 team has two times as many total yards than the other team, they are not evenly matched. Richlands moved the ball at will. Only turnovers and penalties slowed them down, not SDs defense. On the other hand, Richlands only gave up 230 yards. Take away the penalties and turnovers and it's a 3 TD win for Richlands.

Thanks for that. See the difference is I have been on here for years and people respect my opinion even if they don't agree. Congratulations again to Richlands

Wow man--not sure calling someone a "dumb tool" is necessary!?!!? Gunz is allowed to have an opinion and at no point did he call out anyone by childish name calling.
May want to focus all of the hostility towards Appo as you will certainly need every aspect to go right to be competitive........

Not once did I saw anything negative about Richlands or anyone posting on here. I am allowed to have my opinion, whether you agree or not and whether you think it is with rose colored glasses. There have been games every year in every state that a team outgained someone, that happens. Most of those yards came on Richlands scoring drives. The penalties I already explained, but I will again, when you have 6-8 penalties for lining up in the neutral zone, what do you expect the officials to do? Not throw it? Or 2 illegal procedures in a row? And the 2 unsportsmanlike penalties? That is 10-12 of them right there that couldn't be considered questionable calls. And every one of the TO's were forced, either by a great play or by pressure. And if you haven't seen a team play all year you can't say they played as good as they could. See me, I am a realist, and I know that I can't say if Richlands played their best, worst, or somewhere in the middle. I don't pretend to know everything. Just giving my own opinion with quite a bit of knowledge over many years of being involved

But, you will never see me take or initiate a cheap shot on another poster. I feel that is wrong....

Don't worry @stormwatcher, I am a tool so I guess I can't comprehend what is being said. Of course I have been on here a long time with quite a bit of posters having respect for my knowledge, but that doesn't matter. I am just a tool who knows nothing because I have a different opinion. Oh well, can't please everyone. Congrats to Richlands and congrats to @lucastookis

I've seen nothing but respectful posts from you.

Regarding Lucustookis, after the first Richlands-Graham game he was posting that Graham was the better team, even though Richlands had more first downs, more total yardage, and outcored Graham 31-3 over the final 2 1/2 quarters. Perhaps he should look in the mirror before calling someone a tool.

Please, there are people on here that only want to use things when it suits their opinion. The thing is I knew people wouldn't agree with my opinion, and yes I thought my team would win, but I always pick them to win no matter what because that is the fan in me. I never came on here saying they would win or a score or anything, that is not me. I don't boast about my team and don't make excuses when they lose. I give my opinion. I am not upset with any of the posts on here, what I don't understand is all over these boards for years from lots of different teams is when people try to make things look better for themselves and explain why they should have won by more. The if and buts thing. Maybe there team could have won by more, maybe they could have lost, but they won no need to try to make it look worse by a post. And that is certainly more than just this one game. And I know it is like that from every area, because they are a home town area, and they cover that team, but from what I heard with the radio people, you can't go by what you heard on radio. They are homers and rightfully so, but I have listened to games on the radio before, and you can tell a bias from any radio brodcast, so its either in your favor or not and can dictate how a game is perceived if you weren't there

I respect your opinions Gunz41 as you have always been respectful. I may not always agree with your or somebody else's opinion on here but I always try to be respectful myself.
I just never understand the need for some on here to get personal and call names just because they may disagree with ones opinion. But sadly it happens all to often.
Congrats to SD on a fantastic year and good luck to them in the future !

You said it best that this was an incredible game that could've went either way. Draft's defense played a great game overall causing a handful of turnovers, scoring a defensive TD and getting to the backup punter on 4th down earlier in the game. The Richlands defense deserves a lot of credit for the win Saturday as multiple times in the second half, the cougar d got a takeaway, but the Richlands defense didnt allow much of anything afterwards. This was really brought to light when SD was trying to run out the clock on their last drive, and they couldn't pick up the first down, which resulted in 'the drive.' I was standing just outside of the end zone so I had a great view of the final drive, and when Richlands got the ball, I told the folks next to me that we were about to see JLA put on a clinic as he is made for that type of drive and sure enough he made me look like a wise man. I think both teams could have won that game and I would have said 'Richlands really deseved that or SD really deserved that one' as both teams made mistakes, didn't capitalize at times , and had plays they wish they could take back but I really believe the better matchup to face Appo won. With Howie out that makes things more difficult but i still think this is Appos closest game of the playoffs.

I do want to congratulate both teams, coaches, and communities. Both teams gave it all they had and both fanbases cheered non stop resulting in a great atmosphere for a classic game that will be remembered forever by these boys and their communities. It was a game you see movies made about as there was so much grit and emotion expressed throughout.

I know both sets of coaches have heard their share of criticisms over the past week for various reasons (discipline, play calling, 2 point conversions, etc.) but they deserve some praise. Especially Coach Floyd and his staff. Folks wrote SD off when Mr. Bowers left and many thought SD would fall into mediocrity in the post-bowers/Goforth era, but they rose up and proved folks wrong. Floyd and his staff did a heck if a job this year and I wish them more success in the future.
