Richlands vs Appomattox

Too hard to predict this early. Richlands needs to find a consistent running game. Appomattox needs to find a QB. Richlands will have a more prolific passing offense than they did last year, but need a RB to step up to take pressure off of Asbury. This Richlands defense is very inexperienced, but it has the making to be just as good as last year as the year moves along and they gel as a unit. Also switching defenses this year, so that will take some time as well.

I fully expect these two to meet again and it will be another barn burner.

Its not that we dont have a QB Ryan4VT. Its that he was a converted qb as a sophomore that never played QB. Matt Page played QB little league up to varsity. SIDE NOTE: UVA came down and wanted Matt as preferred walk on in March, QB coach said they loved his footwork and wanted to work with him 2 years. Matt chose to continue his commitment at Apprentice School. Anyways, Matt showed Javon a lot last year. Javon been going to all the QB camps, looking good in 7 on 7. We got our JV qb back finally (little frail though from not working out). He led JV 8-2 and then 9-1. Both are rising Jrs. I just wanna see how Javon does in a pocket. Will he have the patience of Page? Or will he tuck and run? Will he see the audible like Page did and change play at line? These are the things I need to see from him. One thing for sure is Javon has a high IQ of the game and that is why Coach got him there.

Like I said, you lost your QB with experience, and the new guy has no varsity experience. You can be a great JV player and sometimes that doesn't always transfer over to varsity. I realize you guys have your guy picked out, but you have to find consistent QB play. That, to me, is the big question mark on that team. Same as us with our RB. He has varsity snaps, but they all came when we had pulled out starters in the 3rd quarter. We need to find consistent RB play to take pressure off of the returning 2A state player of the year. We just need 750 yards of rushing to keep defenses honest.

It would be great to see a re-match of these 2 somewhere in the playoffs. D-2 has WAY too many quality teams to expect them to meet in the finals, however. Could it happen? Yes.... Will it happen??? .... There's a couple of dozen other teams out there that will be pretty dang good this season that will have a lot to say about that. As for all of the talk about the passing game.... These 2 have already met in a 7 o 7 with Appomattox coming out on top convincingly.... Yes, I know the lineplay and pads and yada yada yada make a difference... just saying. Don't assume that Richlands will win the battle of the passing attack. These teams have met, they each have film... The game could be very different. Some key players lost from each team that could play a key role in the outcome of this game.

IF it happens. (Notice the big if)

Yep. They met at a 7 on 7 when Richlands didn't have all of it's players. NEVER base a season off of a 7 on 7. Good rule of thumb to follow. I fully believe these teams will meet again somewhere. Weather that's another quarterfinal or whenever it may be. There are other good teams that could complicate it, but it's just one mans prediction.

If Richland's qb is the lefty we saw at UVA wise this summer he has decent arm strength. His ability to throw a receiver open isn't there yet but that comes with experience. Even though he is a little better than average. Hoping he has better receivers that what was with him at that camp he should do fine.

If that is your assessment of Richlands, u must not know football. No wonder you pump ur son up so much on boards, because you dont know real talent when its in your face! Stop being a hater! Richlands QB and 2 of their WRs are the real deal (1 already got D1 offers). My issues with Richlands is beyond talent. I dont think they play fair when aquiring talent, thats all.

As always just my opinion. As I said in another reply..... couldn't have been the ones I watched play last year in the playoffs. And as for the evaluation comment I can evaluate talent but some people can't take it when it doesn't agree with their opinion. And as for my son he has won position MVP awards at co.bine this summer in places like Charlotte where the level of competition is extremely high. Maybe you need to re evaluate your ability also. Also the i believe the one wr was a transfer from somewhere also.

He has also been contacted by 2 d2 schools and 2 naia schools. Not expecting much for this season as we have no qb. If he has any success he will have to do it on his own. Really not looking forward to this season at all. The kid from uva camp would be a million % upgrade to our situation.

That's the same kid who won 2A player of the year last year. Even with that honor, he still has things to work on, as does every single football player in the country, regardless of level. We have not had our full compliment of weapons at the 7 on 7s this summer. That's why you don't put any stock into 7 on 7s or camps. When the lights come on in a few weeks, then you see what you have.

I agree they were good I got to see them at work in the playoffs but the ones at the camp couldn't have been them.
I think Richlands was missing a couple of receivers at camp. I would expect the transfer from Riverview (Howie) to possibly go D-1. The kid that transferred from Graham (Booker) will probably get interest at lower levels...perhaps Emory and Henry. They have other good receivers as well that I don't know much more about, other than that they are good.

The kid from Graham I know Is one that was there he was wearing #3 I knew he wasn't the #3 from last year. He should have stayed at Graham I dont see him as a starter in Richland's at all.

If that qb is the same one I will chalk it up to unfamiliar receivers cause he does really well with his own receivers. For some.e reason I was thinking he was a righty.

Graham has an abundance of quality receivers this year as well. An upcoming Junior (Taymon Cooke) with 4.40 speed has garnered some D-1 looks. A couple of other very talented sophomores and a senior that are athletic with around 4.5 speed. Graham won't miss a beat without him this season. Hate to see him go, but I don't think he would've gotten much more looks at Graham than at Richlands. He is a good receiver, I wouldn't judge him by the one camp. Wish him the best of luck. He may fit into Richland's scheme a little more than Graham's. Graham most likely will roll their qb out (Very athletic mobile qb's).... and hit their receivers on short routes and get the ball to their athletes in space, with the option of the QB to run. The threat of the long ball is there as well with Taymon Cooke, as well.

Couple that passing game with a RB that rushed for 2400 yards last season and possibly another RB that ran for 1000 yards last season (rumored to be transferring to Graham.....but not so sure it's going to actually happen)..... and Graham may be challenging in 2A West this year. (Got off topic...sorry...had to mention my G-Men...high hopes for them this year

Not enough footballs to go around for the weapons that Graham will have on offense this year. Defense???? that's the big question mark.

Actually talked my son talked to the cousin kid at bluefield college camp. He knew exactly who he was once he found out where we were from. Asked if we wanted to move. Ha. Yeah and you-all pounded us..... We were so unprepared for that game. The only time I've ever heard our coach admit that too. Can't really say it would have made any difference either but still. Not going to be A very good year for us. Lost too much and coach doesn't seem too enthusiastic about this season either. Haven't had but one 7-7 and no practices yet. Just don't know.

With no 7 on 7's and no practices yet.... that's discouraging. Graham is returning to their old form of past glory. They will have a very high powered offense, but the defense that they used to be known for is questionable. Offense will not be an issue....if they score 60 points per game, it wouldn't surprise me.....they just need to show that they can stop the good teams, which they haven't been able to do in quite a while, now. Defense showed improvement last year, but still not where it needed to be. Gotta get some of those hard nosed kids that love the contact in there on defense. The arm-tackling and dragging players to the ground by their jerseys and pads needs to stop.

Very discouraging but a bright side is we have a new superintendent and he's very sports oriented. He has already hired a new basketball and volleyball coaches. He knows that to have a successful school you have to have successful sports programs. My son knows that if he's going to have any kind of a season he's going to have to make the best of every opportunity he gets. We also have 2 new coaches coming in to help maybe a little bright spot. Just seems like no one cares or maybe we ( my son's and I ) care too much. Whichever it is the good Ol boy rules in Grayson.

You can never care too much about your school's success. A good football team fosters school pride. I have been on both sides of it. Good Luck to your son. If playing football helps him to get a higher education, that's what it's all about anyway. Wins and losses really don't matter in the grand scheme of things. Preparing young men for life is what it is all about.

Your 4 starting WR will be Howie (6'4 and very fast), Ball (6'4), and Booker and Collins in the slots. Booker will have the same role that Atkinson had last year. He will get bubbles and routes across the middle and let his athleticism get extra yards. Howie and Collins both went to VT invite-only camps the past two weeks. We also have TE Landon Lowe who is an absolute tank. There are also 2-3 more receivers who could start on most area teams that will play roles here when the main guys need a break. Couple all that with the returning 2A state player of the year, and I fully expect this years passing offense to be better than last years offense.

I think you'll see a RB by committee approach. James White will likely start, and we may see Collins and Booker and even Lowe motion into the backfield or take sweeps and such to keep things interesting.

Thanks. Graham comes to Grayson this year look me up. Don't worry I'm easy to spot well hear anyway. Wish them all best of luck too. If our enrollment keeps dropping as much as it has this may be the last time they meet as district rivals. We will be well below the 500 mark next year.

Best hands on the team would have to be scottie ball. Hes not a burner but has the size and hands
