Richmond Times dispatch top 10 (804)

The top 5 are contrary to what most of us in the Richmond area have been saying.

But, I've said this a million times, the RTD rankings are of no value. It is basically political, catering to their prime subscription areas. Besides, how the heck can you include all 6 classes and all private schools in one rating, and say who is better?

Years ago, they had sports writers that were at the top of their game. In the last decade or more the quality of their work has fallen off dramatically. Maybe it's a reflection of the dying of newspapers in general? I'm not sure of why, but I'm sure of what is.

I think it is a genuine attempt by people who are less knowledgeable than we are on the subject. If we swapped Bird and HSHS I could live with it. I'n not sold on Freeman or Hopewell either. Maybe they prove me wrong

Honestly, I'm not sold on Manchester! Willing to wait and see...
Hermitage, I saw scrimmage Hanover. Their defense looks good. Their offense struggled! I do think HS will take them down.
Highland Springs played Dale tough, but not their best and still won that match up 28-16.
HS really manhandled #4 North Stafford 42-14 the week before Dale. I'm going to see Bird and MBK tomorrow.... I'll give my take on that later!
I am high on this young Springer team! The rest of Springer Nation is too!
They like usual, are loaded with talent. Only thing they lack at this point is Varsity experience. We'll just have to keep a close eye on that "lack of experience" and see how long it might last!

Oh I am not 100% sold on manchester either. I haven't seen them play a good 4 quarters since last year against Bird and they almost squandered that lead. But they are returning like 50 some players and their D1 QB Brandon Clark. On paper they are loaded. If not now then when for Manchester??? BC I don't trust them yet they are not my number 1. I had them at #2 behind Hermitage. If HSHS beats Hermitage in week 1 the worst ranking they could have is #2 and maybe even number 1. Manchester and Hermitage play this year again so lets see what happens.

For me HSHS would instantly go to #2 and Manchester #1. Manchester needs to win convincingly to maintain that number 1 spot if HSHS remains undefeated moving forward. Just my take.

Does anyone know what happened at the Manchester vs Varina scrimmage last week.? That could tell us a lot about both teams.

I thought Varina physically were tougher than Manchester. There first team beat Manchester and they won the scrimmage while also having 2 TDs called back.

Doesn't surprise me that Varina was more physical. Surprised tht Varina won with 2 D's called back though. Wow!! I think we just all don't know ish at this point

Scrimmaged St. Chris and Lee Davis last night 2 qtrs each. Beat St. Chris 3-2.
Lost to LD 2-0 against our 1s & 2s vs their 1s. They added a late score against our 3s. I don't know if we were that tired after 2 qtrs against a fresh LD or if their O line is THAT good. There is no doubting that they are good and big. They consistently opened holes in our D and Josh Rice is a quick and powerful runner and #24 looked good as well. We struggled to shut down their run game. They also ran some well designed and executed screen passes. They didn't challenge us down the field preferring to throw more short passes to the tight ends. Defensively they were strong at the point of attack as well as fast and aggressive rallying to the ball. We had multiple chances to make that aggressiveness pay dividends for us and did not get the ball to open receivers. They do what they do well. I think we might have gotten the benefit of a couple of those mystery calls that usually seem to go against the team you are rooting for but not to the extent of scores being called back. Lots of refs in attendance doing training.

We still have some work to do this week to be on par with LD and Varina, but hopefully we are not far off.

How did Roustis look when you scrimmaged St Chris?

He looked good. Threw a lot of short stuff taking advantage of what the defense was giving him. Threw one nice deep ball when we subbed CBs. I think Lee Davis had two pick 6s against him, but I wasn't watching the play. He is a solid player and a good kid. Its always nice to have a good backup; sounds like you have a monster in the wings. LOL

A 6'3", 230lb QB named Stone? Wow! Is he the apparent QB for his senior season?

Maybe so but he is our starting middle backer also. You'll see him throw tomm in pregame. Curious to see wht you think of it. Almost looks odd to see a qb tht big
