Riverheads Girls won a classic Augusta County rivalry contest Friday knocking off Wilson 52-49. Emma Casto led the Gladiators with 15 while teammate Macey Snyder added 14. Sarah Sondrol led the Hornets with 16.

After dueling to a 10-10 tie after the first period, both teams found their offensive weapons in the second frame. Snyder scored all of her points in the period, 12 of them coming from bombs beyond the arc. Sondrol was finding an opening inside to score eight of her points in the period but Riverheads took a 31-29 lead into the locker room.

It stayed close throughout the third period with Riverheads holding a 42-39 lead going into the final period. Freshman Paris Hutchinson got hot for Wilson hitting three 3-pointers to help the Hornets take the lead. However, a couple of drives to the basket by Christa Arehart eventually gave the Gladiators a 50-49 lead. Wilson had the ball with 22 seconds left but the Gladiators had fouls to give and after Casto grabbed a loose ball with 8.9 seconds left, she calmly buried two free throws and Riverheads defense stopped Wilson's last gasp to come away with the win.

Riverheads is now 7-3 while Wilson drops to 8-5.
