All things considered, that is a wise decision not to play tomorrow night. If the two teams were closer together, a decision could have been delayed and the game possibly still played, but with so much uncertainty and the travel distance, it was wise to be cautious.
However, Westmoreland comes out on the losing end of the deal for two reasons, maybe three. First of all, Riverheads simply OWED them this game because W & L had traveled to RHS back in 2019 and the pandemic had prevented the return part of the trip. We also owe Colonial Beach a home game for the same reason. Secondly, Riverheads fans travel very well and I am sure that Westmoreland would have been pleasantly surprised at the gate and concession returns.
As for the third reason, the one I am less sure about, playing Riverheads even if they lost might have benefited them in terms of playoff points. I have never followed the system but it is possible W'land could have picked up rider points for Riverheads' wins, but again don't quote me on any of that. I leave that high math to those who didn't get Cs and Ds in algebra as I did!
So again a wise decision. Guess we can all pick an alternate game to attend, weather-permitting, or just stay at home and watch whatever is on the tube. Last but not least, it gives CCC more time to recuperate. The Gladiators will now be scheduled to host Buffalo Gap next Friday.
