JF loses a lot this coming year, but if the rumor on the 3A board is true, they may not drop off as severely as originally thought. Grayson Overstreet a 6'2" 205 lb RB from Staunton River, is reportedly transferring to JF this fall. He will be a Jr this coming year and his Sophomore year was extremely impressive. He rushed for over 2,000 yards and was a good receiver out of the backfield. I'm just relaying what I read on the 3A board so Idk if it's accurate. JF still has a lot of players to replace, but this 1 player could make a significant difference.

Overstreet was a major contributor and a big part of SR's turnaround last year. They were a 2-8 team in '14 & jumped to 8-5 last year, making the playoffs for the first time in several years. They played a tough schedule as their opponent's record was 94-58. Their losses were to Jefferson Forest, Northside, Lord Botetourt, William Byrd, and Magna Vista.

I don't know if JF had any prospects on last year's jv, but if true, Overstreet's presence would go a long way toward plugging the gaping hole in the backfield following the loss of Navy Jones. However, I'm not sure that ultimately will make much of a difference. JF loses so much, and were so suspect defensively against top teams last year, that I don't see one player - even an excellent one - bumping the Cavs up above borderline playoff team status. Would Overstreet be a factor on the defensive side of the ball?

As you say 1 player won't replace all of the players JF is losing to graduation. I do believe Coach Christmas has changed the mindset at JF the last 2 years and they'll probably still find themselves in the playoff mix.

Overstreet is listed at 6'2" 205 & he also plays MLB on defense.

2 years ago no one would have thought JF would go 24-2 so we'll see this year was their success because of a couple special players, a coach, or a combination of the two?

If true jf becoming transfer capital of SW VA. Remember that Navy Jones was a transfer. When will the recruiting charges start flying?
For a couple of years it was Northside getting William Fleming players. Now it looks like JF is getting the RB's from Altavista and Staunton River possibly now.

I work in the school at Appomattox so I hear the kids talking and usually hear stuff like this first from them. Plus, I know a travel ball (basketball) coach that has ties with some of the S.R. kids and he told me about this as well.
