Really good, solid football game. 7-0 Salem at the half, came out and made the adjustments and got 2 very long drives for scores. Defense played fantastic, bit of bending but almost no breaking. Offense got it done when it mattered, Beckley played fantastic outside of 1 or 2 plays. A lot of decision making from Beckley tonight and he made the right call almost every time.

Salem needed a game like this and they rose to the challenge. PH is a very good team, very capable QB and good WRs as well as just plain big all over.

Very good game i totally agree. Patrick Henry band very disrespectful playing loud on salem 3rd downs. I understand before the play but during extremely disrespectful. Any thoughts on this

I don't care at all about that. I care more that Salem band plays loud when Salem is on offense and the student section only gets loud on big offensive plays when they are trying to snap the ball. They make very little noise when Salem is on defense.

Big defference between a band playing(during a play and people in the crowd cheering for there team.

Why would you want to play when your own team has the ball? The whole idea is to make it hard for the offense to hear

Salem band will not play during a play.they will play before the teams line up to scrimmage then they stop

I was not at that game so i cant say for sure. What i know is this they were not playing a song they were just trying to be loud on salem 3rd downs. Playing a song is much different then just banging and just trying to be loud.
Okay, that changes things a bit. No, a lot of bands do not do that.

Salem plays music, they dont simply try to be loud during 3rd down specially for the whole play. It honestly reminded me of what virginia te h does during a kick off.

You just have completely misunderstood my post...

*starts thread, leaves it*
*comes back 2hr later, "oh wow 24 replies finally some discussion"
"everything not related to my OP about bands*

sigh.
You're right...
Good physical game. Didn't think it would be 7-0 at the half. One thing that hurt the PH QB is he throws a lot of balls side armed. Salem has always done a good job of getting their hands up if they can't get to the QB. Their TD Reminded me a lot of the Amherst game years ago.. Quick pass after quick pass in the flat and then scores on the long ball.

So maybe PH's band was giving Salem a dose of their own medicine. Or vice versa, kinda like the infamous "train horn guy of Glenvar" on the 2A board!

No, nobody does that because only adults are dumb and vindictive over high school football. Those kids just play when the drum major tells them to, that's it, and those drum majors aren't being called to heel because Wilkes or the PH band director is trying to teach the other a lesson.

Salem won with a solid effort, neither band affected anything, this is a total non-issue.

Yup. The referees can warn bands that do this if the opposing team offensive LOS is in front of the band when it happens. Second time it happens, 15-yard penalty. If the referees didn't even warn PH, it must have been fine. Find something else to complain about.

Outside of that very specific circumstance, bands can literally play whenever they want in HS football. Like folks mentioned earlier though, of course smart bands only play when their team is on defense.

PH Salem game is on Gameday Brodcast Network. Video shows in the 4th quarter the Salem band playing while PH has the ball during live play right in front of them
The difference is the Salem band will start their songs long before the snap. The PH band would start their songs right before the snap.

So it's ok to play as long as you start the song early just not at the start of a play. I see where your coming from. That would mean since PH is being so disrespectful playing while the other team has the ball then Salem is being disrespectful for a longer period of time since they started playing earlier pre-snap.

Playing earlier pre-snap is the most accepted method and the most respectable. The thinking is if they play right before the snap they're just trying to make noise and disrupt the offense.

Totally ridiculous discussion about bands when there was a perfectly good high school football game to discuss. Salem has made solid improvements since the Amherst game and if they can get healthy before playoffs start they will once again be in the thick of things. If PH can get a home game they might be able to get a playoff win but, a road trip to Fredericksburg/NOVA/Richmond will make it advancing past first round difficult at best.

Heard Mundy is practicing and will play last game of season. He looked like he was walking with no limp at all last night. I don't know what spot he will play, but his size should really help out. And whoever comes out has gotten a ton of experience.

That's what I was thinking about PH. They have a pretty solid team with a qb who won't make many mistakes.
