Doesn't do Salem any good playing these teams but they can not help it----Hidden Valley is a local team that plays Salem in all sports and is in their district. However, Salem could have scored over 100 easily even with the running clock. Salem plays Carroll County next week---will be another blow out. Salem will not have another tough game until they play Patrick Henry and Pulaski. Hidden Valley intimidated from the first play. Did not want to be there in the rain or sun. Coach Mags showed his class again as Salem did not score a single point in the second half

Looks like we lost another lineman. Thomas Mundy was on crutches. That makes three Mules out. I sure as hell hope Mags doesn't take any flack over this score. He did everything he could. Reserves were playing in the first half. HV is that bad.

HV must have lost a TON from a decent 8-3 team last year.
Hv now 0-4 got beat by Liberty Bedford last week 53-50 -----I think Salem is pretty dang good also---they just reloaded even though they lost 17 starters from last year----pretty dang amazing

Similar thing Wednesday night. Highland Springs scored on the first three plays of the game. (Played Armstrong). Had to be almost a record. Could have been 150-0 if they wanted it to be. I think it's time they relax the points for playing "in district" to give teams the opportunity to avoid these rediculious match ups. If someone can explain how the kids on either side benefit from these types of games, I'd like to hear it.

Hidden Valley has been a playoff team the last few years.

He was walking around without them for awhile. They taped his ankle and he tried to take a few snaps and just wasn't feeling it. I imagine they were cautionary with the crutches.

Easy few weeks still to go, probably just keep him on ice until he's actually needed.

Scary part is Carroll County is usually much worse than Hidden Valley. I expected a blowout but this game was ridiculous. 3 scores on defense- 2 pick 6's & a scoop and score. 4 (40+ yds) breakaway scoring runs, by 3 different ball carriers. 4 TO by HV. 3 TD by A Ramsey, (1 on defense) 3 TD by Clayborne, TD each by Fox, (Def) Pinello, D Ramsey, Ponton, (Def) & Freshman RB Robinson. They will need to bring more JV guys up for the next 3 weeks to get guys experience and to minimize injuries, lot of guys getting injured thus far.

Hard to see all these players injured. They have worked so hard all along...especially the seniors who may not play again. Tough all the way around.

Amen brother!
GO SALEM
GO MULES

They need to eliminate "districts" completely. They force teams to play district games so that certain schools can play down and not have to travel.

I used to have the same feelings and argument. But the truth is, in most other sports, district play is still an asset. So, if there is a way to just let football evolve away from strict district scheduling, that would probably be a good solution. And we may see that happen, or begin to happen, when the format of "super conferences" becomes affective next school year. Next year, we are still in our two year scheduling cycle, but after that I expect to see some erosion of strict district schedules in football. Again, the key will be if the "modified points system" is modified further to remove the premium for playing district opponents. Still a tough row to hoe, but we shall see.

This game wasn't a result of district play being forced upon Salem, it was a normal offensive output combined with 3 defensive scores, a rarity at any level of play. Dump those out and you're left with a 56 point showing which, given what HV has given up this year on D(48, 48, 31, 53 points) jives right with a Salem team who can move the ball. HV is normally a 5-7 win team. Salem has yet to lose to them but they're frequently a tough opponent.

This result was an outlier, nothing more.
