On a very nice cool crisp fall evening the Christiansburg Blue Demons (1-6) paid a visit to Salem Stadium to take on the Spartans (6-0) in a River Ridge District clash. Christiansburg had the unenviable task of trying to beat a Salem team that hadn't lost a game at home since September 2013, and hadn't lost a district game since October 2011.

Salem won the toss and chose to receive. They wasted little time in showing off their offense. Donte Clayborne got things started when he had a 13 yard run. On the next play Viante Tucker caught a short out, quickly turned in and out raced the Demons' defense 53 yards to the endzone, aided by a speedy Alex Ramsey who helped fend off a couple of would be tacklers making the score 7-0.

Christiansburg looked to respond on their next series, but QB Xavier Kane's pass was picked off by Joseph Quinn around midfield and returned to the 1. RB Alex Ramsey took it in on the next play to put the score at 14-0.

Salem's defense was able to throttle Christiansburg's next drive forcing them to punt. Salem took over on their own 31. On the very first play of the drive Donte Clayborne raced up the left sideline 69 yards to the endzone putting Salem up 21-0.

Salem's next opportunity with the ball produced an 8 play balanced drive. Salem ran the ball 4 times between Ramsey and Clayborne and QB Noah Beckley threw the ball 4 times to Ramsey, Tucker, and finally Fox for the 3 yard TD. Christiansburg found themselves in a 4 TD hole.

Christiansburg's offense was ineffective all night forcing them to punt the ball back to the Spartan's red hot offense. Sophmore FB Deangelo Ramsey started off with an 8 yard run putting the ball near midfield. Clayborne took the next handoff 10 yards to around the 40. D Ramsey finished the drive off with a nice 40 yard scamper to the endzone giving each Ramsey brother a TD.

With very little time remaining before half Beckley engineered a scoring drive with passes of 27 yards to A Ramsey, a 21 yard pass to Tucker, and another to Tucker for 9 yards. A Ramsey finished the drive off with a 13 yard TD run putting Salem up 42-0 at half.

After the long homecoming halftime procession, Salem's 1st string offense had one last drive before Coach Magenbauer rested them for next week's meeting with Patrick Henry. Leandre Farris caught a 17 yard pass from Beckley putting the Spartans around Christiansburg's 40 yard line. Ramsey and Clayborne moved the ball nearly 30 yds on 3 runs to put the ball just outside the 10 yard line. Beckley went back to pass, but saw an opening on the right side of the Christiansburg defense so he took off for the promised land. The 12 yard TD run ended Salem's scoring for the night at 49-0.

Christiansburg put up a late score to avoid being shutout making the final score Salem 49 Christiansburg 7.

Nick Wade, Salem's backup QB, ran the ball twice for 65 yards in mop up duty. Last week Wade had a 70 yard run against Blacksburg. The Sophomore QB looks to continue Salem's strong run of solid QB's.
