Salem comes back from 32-21 deficit in 4th.

Congratulations to Salem on a huge win and to Blacksburg on a very sound season.

After watching the replay I thought Salem's offensive line played very well and when faced with pressure Gladden stepped up in the pocket and made good decisions. He has surely matured and is hitting throws he missed earlier in the season.

Although Salem missed a few tackles in the box they made stops when it counted. Yes, Beck got his yards as good backs do; however, Salem made defense came through in the clutch.

Salems special teams played exceptionally well. Craft's kickoffs and punts kept Blacksburg pinned in all night. The coverage team also did a great job on the kickoff that did not make the end zone. Craft is a valued commodity whether Salem fans realize it or not. Short punts, a blocked xp, and a missed xp were huge special teams errors for Blacksburg.

Lastly, Salem whether you want to admit it or not many of you guys threw in the towel and were highly critical of your team. Was it warrented? Probably so, but there is a lesson to be learned. Don't act like roaches and hide when things are going bad. Stay out front and never ever give up on a well coached and fundementally sound team like yours. Once again the Spartans have stepped up to the plate and are one step away from going to the show. That is why Salem is Salem! Look forward to seeing you guys in September. Good luck next week.

Many Salem fans are fairly knowledgeable about football. They have also been afforded the luxury of seeing the best 4a has to offer on a regular basis. All Salem teams are measured by that standard. It's probably a little unfair but it is the reality of the situation. Salem has their share of what I call rah rah fans who just cheer blindly no matter what, but they also have their share of critics who see the weaknesses and point them out (again using a very high standard). They still love their Spartans but they are realistic. They know if those weaknesses aren't fixed the Spartans will not be an elite team. We are very fortunate that we have the coaching staff that we do, because those weaknesses usually get fixed. Remember that each new Salem team gets compared to past Salem teams. A very tough standard to meet

Southbottom, I totally understand. Dinwiddie has become very much the same way. I get it, but you for one should know I what I was referring to. Even the harshest critics should remember we are dealing with high school kids who make mistakes.

Its easy for fans of consistently good teams to become spoiled. Maybe the fans in the stands did not flee I can't speak on that, but the many of the normal Spartan posters on preps sure did. Got to stick with your boys through thick and thin.

Good luck to Salem and Sherando. There will be a new foe from the east.

Really agree with you on the improvement of Gladden. He has come a long way. Team has really improved

I definitely would stop short of saying he has NFL potential, that's ridiculous.

He absolutely is the best athlete in the area, though.

I am going to have to agree with my man here. Colleges go on numbers and potential, NFL is based on production.

Of course some times it is because of grades and things, but some of the best players in history played at small colleges, because they weren't these highly recruited kids out of high school. There are all kinds of highly recruited or power 5 schools that get nowhere afterwards.

Yes, if any player has measureables and production at the next level they have the chance to play at the highest level, but that's impossible to say before he steps on a college field

Fine, every kid has NFL potential. Everyone's the best at everything all the time forever and ever and nobody ever wins or loses anything.
Beck definitely has NFL potential. Doesn’t mean he’ll make it, but it’s a decent possibility. He could easily be a return specialist like Ryan Switzer for the Cowboys.

What do you mean "he played for the same high school team". ? Putts fine, he is just excitable

Stop giving 3putt passes on here. He posts some of the most derogatory things about kids I've ever seen. Then praised Navy Jones's injury a few months ago on top of that.

Did not see post you are referring to. Three putt is fine. Most of the time he's trying to be funny.

"F... Beck., season over... Friday football extra showed his classless acts in the endzone.... Redshirt first year pissed off second year ... Qjuits football runs track...."

Completely inappropriate comment on page 1 of this very thread.

Imo he is not funny and has very little real knowledge but, he is to be commended for his efforts to broadcast Salem football on the radio. Most of the time he is harmless, however, he says a lot of very dumb things, including the latest, as he is falling off his MacNBob's barstool. He should never be allowed near a keyboard once he has had a pop.

It's sad how many people on this board play pattycake with him and ignore this kind of stuff. They treat him like some malcontent mascot instead of a grown man saying messed up garbage. Same kind of people who yell at these kids for celebrating TDs or not playing football like it was 40 years ago when they played.

I think we should all just take a deep breath, talk about football and related subjects, and ignore the few post which cross the line. This should be a thread about the game last night, not the people on this board.

The problem is these posts interject themselves in football threads. There are quite a few posters across the various boards on here that spew nothing but nonsense. If these type things aren't addressed at the time, they keep doing it.

There is a huge difference in disagreeing with someone's posts like I did @1MoreHokie, he posts his opinions and seems to have knowledge as opposed to spewing negativity and unsmart things

Terrible post by a terrible poster.

Very true, Salem coaches make the fixes that is necessary and as long as you have Mags, Salem will always be a team in the finals

Agreed on all points Navy! All good ones. Both teams had hiccups that they overcame and it was clear that whoever had the ball last was going to win it seemed. Blacksburg even attempted the old “fake defense let them score “ play hoping to get the ball back but #7 Hale sniffed that out and went down quickly. Very smart play. The defense really stepped up and put some pressure on the qb and cut the slant pass off to Terry which made them go back to the drawing board.
Beck is the real deal in the speed dept and when he gets in space you ain’t gonna catch him so he did get his yards. As far as the showboating stuff goes I’ll just let everyone look at whatever film they see and make your own opinion.
The Salem kicker did his job perfectly to the letter last night. He kept the ball out if the hands of Beck and Terry on the kickoffs and made all his PATS which turned out to be huge. 3 punts that had good coverage that garnered no return yards. Definitely a weapon for the Spartans.
Lastly, it was nothing short of amazing watching the Salem coaching staff lead those kids with no running clock. They players had to execute but it was the most animated I had seen the coaches this year shouting instructions and directing traffic. Watching them point out the fact to the players that Blacksburg was already celebrating on the sidelines I think made a huge impact on the whole team. Great season for the Bruins as they were picked to win it all in the West, can’t take anything away from them. It was a great game to watch as a fan. Good luck to the Spartans going forward. In the words of the old Mule: DON’T EVER COUNT SALEM OUT!

I thought the game was obviously very even. Salem had a few more rushing yards and Blacksburg a few more passing. Turnovers we're about even. The difference in the game was the kicking and punting game. Salem won that area by enough to determine the outcome.

I can only imagine what would be said if Beck pulled off a Crabtree at the game. Although... I wasnt there, but what yall are describing as disrespectful is questionable. I would have love to see the game and what is being observed as arrogant and showboating. A lot of our Appo players showboat and celebrate after a TD. I think using another player on opposite team is off limits though. Example: taking ball and putting in chest of player and dropping it after a TD.

What position will the kid be playing at VT? RB or DB?

Judge for yourself.

Hopefully he corrects this behavior. It doesn't suit him well. He was recruited as a RB.

If I was to guess, they will redshirt him next year and have him bulk up a bit. He never really impressed me much on the football field. He has track speed but that's about it.

I think it's a generational thing. A lot of Salem fans are 45 and up. They are old school. Never draw attention to yourself , it's always team first. Notice in the above video the Salem players just give the ball to the official. That's what most Salem fans like. Younger fans like the celebration and thinks it's ok to draw attention to yourself. Beck did very very little ( rocked the football and put it to sleep---I guess he thought that td was going to put Salem to sleep--didnt work out that way) but most Salem fans don't like any of it. That doesn't make Salem fans wrong, nor are the fans who like to see that stuff.

Most Salem fans don't like that stuff. They wouldn't like it if a Salem player did it. Old school fans. Mostly a generational difference.
Old school fans don’t stand at the fence yelling crap at HS kids either. Read my earlier post. Either way, Salem won the game and congrats.

I was there saw nothing like that. Not saying it didn't happen but that happens to Salem kids on the road all the time. When you're good you become a Target. Get tough, only going to get worse in college. Wait until he plays against West Virginia
