Salem - Offense 37 pts. per game
Defense 20 pts. per game

Martinsburg - Offense 59 pts. per game
Defense 4 pts. per game

Salem's opponents played records thus far 21 - 17
Martinsburg's opponents played records thus far 17 - 29

Martinsburg has throttled every team they have played.
Salem has struggled at some point in most of their games.

If this trend continues, Salem could be in for a long night.
If Salem can put a complete game together, then it should be a good game.
Thoughts?

Numbers really tell the tale here. Salem has a great tradition and coaching pedigree. What Coach Walker has created at MHS is every bit on the level of a White or Mags. Salem will not be intimidated but will be outmatched. If this were another year I might say otherwise. I am rooting for Salem and hope they rep VA. Just not optimistic and very respectful of what Coach Walker and the Bulldogs have achieved.

If talking about numbers as in........school size, there is little difference. One thing to keep in mind is that Martinsburg is not much larger than Salem. Salem has around 1200ish students and Martinsburg has around 1300ish students, so their isn't a huge or large difference in school size.

Salem will play with them. Martinsburg wins by a touchdown. Only my guess. The WV competition is not close to as good as VA. VA is on a higher level of play and competition, but there are a few at the top in WV that can flat out play, and Martinsburg is one of them, but if you thinking Martinsburg is bringing a team that belongs to a school of 2300 hundred students, that's not the case. It only has 100 more students than Salem, approximately; so theoretically, Salem shouldn't be outmatched as they got about as many to choose from in their school as does Martinsburg. When I say outmatched, I am talking about school size. If Martinsburg has more experienced seniors compared to Salem, that's another thing, Salem might be outmatched in that specific area.

Salem must establish the run and play a ball control game to keep the ball out of Martinsburgs offense hands. If they fail do that then Salem will be in for a long night and the game will be over by Halftime. Hoping for a good competitive game.

This years Salem team is better than last year but still building. No where near as good as 2014, 2015, 16, or 17. Neither team will be scared of the other. Salem will have to put it all together to have a chance. But historically this is something Salem can do---rise to the occasion.

I'm not going to throw any predictions out there as I haven't seen Salem play this year. But I think it is awesome that these two programs are making this game happen. Win, lose, or draw - both teams come out of this game better for having played top level competition. I respect the powerhouse program Dave Walker has built but since Virginia is my adopted home - I am definitely pulling for the Spartans.

The real question:f those of us hours away from Salem - will there be a live stream of the game and if so, where do we access it?

Martinsburg has a good feed you can access through YouTube, look up WRNR TV. Salem has a feed from one of the football player's dads, but you have to go through Facebook onto his wall to watch it. I like to use YouTube to watch on TV and watch the Facebook feed on my phone. If you want the info for the Facebook feed let me know and I'll send it to you.

You got that right brother! When it's time to bring the A game, Salem is unique. They more times than not, bring it. I hope Salem gets the W. Salem is playing a pretty classy school and program in Martinsburg. As a poster mentioned earlier in this thread about their coach. He's the real deal.

You don't have to go into enrollments .Martinsburg is considered a D4 school by VHSL

Need to pressure the QB. Make him uncomfortable. Easer said than done

Definitely gets his team prepared. Nothing but respect .

The WRNR feed is great, I watched it when Martinsburg played Sherando earlier this season.

Does anyone know the genesis behind the scheduling of this series? They are two elite programs in their respective states and I love to see them schedule each other, but I have to wonder what or who got these programs connected. Only connection I can muster is Alan Fiddler at PH.

Was not PH coach. The AD at Salem reached out to Martinsburg and they accepted.

I am a frequent flyer at Hollywood Casino in Charles Town... And with great interest, I have followed Martinsburg for many years... I was able to make it to the Woodson game in Martinsburg first game of the season...

Complete mismatch to a normally dominant DC area team...

Of course, being a Brookville alumni, I have also followed Salem...

I will make this short and simple.

Over the years, and I mean over the years, these 2 teams are basically identical. Both are solid in all aspects of the game.
Although this year, despite a undefeated record, Salem is not as strong as they usually are. Martinsburg has played top tier teams for more than a few years now. This will be nothing new to them... For Salem, this is kinda a step out from the normal.

Martinsburg will throw the ball all night long. And have numerous targets...

The key to Salem being able to compete in this game, is to play tight EARLY!
Because if Martinsburg gets it going early, they will continue for the rest of the game.

Im going... and have had this game circled all year! Despite my home team Bees playing Heritage...

I say...

Martinsburg 41
Salem 17

On another note, I was able to watch Myrtle Beach this past weekend.
And talking about passing a bunch, MB ran 41 offensive plays in the first half.
Of those 41, only 4 running plays... Talk about slinging the ball!

I'm not one for predicting scores but I think Salem will struggle with the athleticism and speed of Martinsburg. I was able to see them against Sherando (online) and they have a very accurate quarterback and fast receivers with good hands. I think Martinsburg will win by 3 Tds or more. I've seen Salem play against Franklin County and Amherst and If they are going to keep it competitive they will need to control the clock by running the football and keeping Martinsburg offense off the field as much as possible. Easier said than done though. Of course crazier things have happened so we'll see.

Nothing new for Salem. Dinwiddie 3x, Lake Taylor 2x, Louisa, Sherando, Jefferson Forrest and Blacksburg. I would put these teams up against anyone the dogs have have played. With that being said this is a different yr with different players. Salem will go through their normal routine and play the team across the field. The better team will win. According to max preps national rankings that should be the dogs #311 Salem #912

I've seen all their games this yr and have watched them for several yrs. Martinsburg capitalizes on other teams mistakes. The lines are both good and gives Elijah Banks time to find his receivers. Bowie is a small quick WR that is great at stop and go running. After last week I would definitely kick it away from him (3 punt returns for TD). He also runs reverses and runs good slants and vertical routes. I would expect an early screen pass to him as well. Kearney is also a speedy back that is elusive. Line play will be huge in this game.

Martinsburg between the tackles is like a roadblock. Will have to run the outside, if at all, running the ball. And yes, beware of the special teams; they can house a punt or kickoff at anytime.

Salem is a great representative to carry the VA flag, but I'm not thinking this is going to turn out well for them. I hope I'm wrong.

People seem to forget in WVA, them boys play "pound your face in the dirt football" up there... This team just happens to have a prolific offense. I would love to see Salem knock them off and rep VA... But I dont bet with my heart, I bet with my head...lol

Matinsburg covers the 9.5

They play the same game everyone else plays. If you got the horses and the coaching, you're good. Doesn't matter the state/county/etc...

Yes those teams are good teams, but I am more referring to the out of state/nationally ranked teams... Maxpreps having Martinsburg in the 300s is absolutely crazy... They are def a top 100 team in the nation... Does that mean we cant find 100 teams to beat them? No.. But by the numbers and recognition, Martinsburg surely earns that... I lost count, but I believe they have 7-8 state championships in the last 12 years or so...

If you look back at their schedule, they have pounded on the likes of Sherando(for many years now) Tuscarora, and a few more Northern VA teams, and flew through all the DC teams...They have knocked off Acadamy out of PA twice now, and they are good...
Martinsburg is 0-2 vs Tuscarora losing 2013 35-34 and 2014 40-21
Martinsburg has not pounded Sherando either
2015 14-21 L
2016 35-28 W
2017 31-28 W
2018 50-45 W
2019 37-0 W
Granted they have won 4 of last 5 but with the exception of this yr. All the games were 1 score games. Sherando has good solid teams yr in and out but not close to top caliber teams in VA. EX) 13 Dinwiddie 56-14 State Champ, 15 Woodgrove 35-21, 17 Salem 49-14 State Champ, 18 Woodgrove 27-3 State Champ
They may come to Salem and win big. Like you said earlier this is not your typical 6-0 Salem team.

Well see... their coach has been there for many years... Salem has a first year one... and Salem dont really have as many horses this year... But Martinsburg has a ton of mules...

They do have very good line play.

well reported... surprised you didnt bring out the PH game when they traveled to Roanoke 7 years ago...lol
Nonetheless, Sherando has been the top team in that region for many years... and Martinsburg had rolled through them...

I guess because this Martinsburg is practically the same team that went 14-0 last year, that it may just be bad timing for Salem.

Did not bring those up because the scores could be misleading. Walker and Fiddler are best friends. Highly doubt he would run up the score.

Oh I don't think there's a lot of doubt in the outcome this year.
