I know Surry out of region A is looking for a football coach and several larger schools in the state also have openings. Bigger schools like Caroline, Carroll, Fluvanna, and Riverbend looking for new coaches often pick off small school coaches that find success so I am sure there will be more to come.
Any other schools looking for a new face to lead the program?
I know several GW posters on here would like that, any word there?
Dixon "left" and returned to Galax last off season, was that a one time thing or is he going to look for a college opportunity?

No word yet as far as coaching changes at GW. But I do know that if he is here at the start of the season we will have more kids leave or not play. I've personally had parents of kids who started this year and will next tell me that if he is here their kids won't be. So...

People often struggle with change. I personally think some are bitter over the way The last coach went out...most bought into his way!!! I believe the parents and players could prob work things out with this guy. He has had very respectable numbers over the last few years. Now that he has a different group of stars he has a chance to make a few adjustments as he sees fit. Heck give the guy one more year.

Purely speculative on my part but Dixon will stay, at least in the short term. He will still have two children and a stepchild in school for a few more years. His "resignation" last winter was a show of force to get turf and a new weight training facility. The turf is already a reality and by all appearances, the facility will be soon enough.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Carroll come after current Galax assistant and former Tazewell head coach Shane Allen. He played at Carroll in the 90's and was a longtime assistant at Carroll before taking the head coaching position at Tazewell.

Add 4A King George. They have brand new top notch facilities

Why do people not like the head coach at George Wythe?
The way he treats the ones around him simple as that. Outside of football he is a great guy he really is. But I've never had as many kids that are starters not bitter bench warmers legit starters say they can't stand a coach as much as I've heard about him. And for him to have a chance to change things the kids have to want to play for him. This group of freshman through juniors do not want to play under him. I've had the parents of multiple kids who will start for us next year tell me if he is there the kids will not be. The mother of two of our most prominent players for the future has told me and multiple people that she is already begun looking for a home in Fort Chiswell just in case he is there at the beginning of the season. If the respect isn't there both ways it's dead in the water and to this point it isnt. I hope and pray that him and the kids can come together and make something happen. But with the way things are right now it's never going to happen. If he is our coach next year GW will have its 1st loosing season in 20+ years. And it will be something like 2-8 1-9 so EXTREMELY BAD for GW. And numbers aren't all that important at GW with the kids we have most years we will win 8+ games. Look what they were able to do with a coach they didn't like or want to play for 2 conservative semifinals and 12 win seasons. We have the athletes to win and basically any system or style of offense or defense it all comes down to making connections and earning the respect of your players.

Sad to hear that kids want to up and leave. Really is!! With all that said, let me know if they need any gas money!

When I was in school we respected our coach even if we didn’t like him. Our parents held us to a higher standard as young adults I guess. If things were questionable, they were questioned. If the record reflected a successful season then the coach was left to do what he was being paid/chosen to do.

Sounds like a complete failure to communicate on both sides. This parent u speak of would be teaching her children a better lesson by showing them how adversity and hard work can pay off even if things don’t always go your way.

This is a team sport. What about your teammates? You grow up playing from sandlot till now. They don’t deserve to be abandoned. I think everyone should just call a meeting and lay everything out there. Discuss things. Teach these kids that way. Most coaches would love to hear what the players and parents have to say about their performance as a whole. I’m assuming this guy is no different...

I would understand relocating if it was going to help further a career. But let’s be honest, most of these young men will hang their pads up permanently in the next couple of years!!! Might as well finish out with the guys u call “YOUR TEAMMATES”

I got it... since most Fort fans can’t stand their coach, and GW fans have little or no respect for theirs, how about they just switch coaches??? PROBLEM SOLVED everyone can play with the same team they grew up with and not have to move.

I love FCs coach he is a hell of a guy and outside of the game ours is to. And I do agree with your point that adversity builds you for the real world. But sadly most don't see it that way anymore now if your feelings are hurt that coddle you and tell you everything's going to be okay. That is the world we live in. Idk we shall see what happens.

Blaster, I wish u guys the best of luck. It’s gonna be tough this coming year no matter who is in charge of the team. I’m not sure the kids today realize how blessed they are to be a part of a winning tradition. For that to continue tho it’s gonna take heart, dedication and perseverance. From both sides! I hope it gets figured out...

Couldn't agree more this may be the 1st year in a very long time that we don't have a winning record. If say at this point we are anywhere from 0-10 to 8-2 next year. It's all going to depend on who stays asks who goes. And can they finds some heart
