Scrimmage Updates Thread

Looking forward to hearing from you guys on how our teams fared tonight! I got a chance to see GW Danville play. Will give the breakdown when I get home.
I went to the Amherst scrimmage against Liberty Bealton and when I left Amherst had scored 5 TD to their 0. I was impressed with the talent

Viable Ticker? I thought that was a pacemaker prototype. ;-)

Overall i think it was a good scrimmage.. seen some good and some bad.. MV qb had some good runs and throws.. Running game just wasnt there yet, but you never really know how hard they pushing it.. seem like the secondary was all 3 teams weakness tonight. I think brookville and MV will compete well this yearin 3a, just need that game experience.. salem i think will be just as good as last year, i think the amherst game will be a good game.

Heard LCA did better than JF and the JF fans said they had some kinks to work out

GW played in the Granville Central High School Jamboree in NC tonight. In the first scrimmage against 4a Cedar Ridge, GW scored 3 TDs to 1. CR really didn't have much offense. They scored on the last play of the scrimmage as GW had mostly JV players in. They continued to dominate as they didn't give up a TD in the next 3 scrimmages(4a Person County, 3a Northern Vance, and 1a Granville Central) and scored a combined 11 TDs in those 3 games. In the night cap which let the guys play the full 100 yards, they tied 7-7 with Ravenscroft School out of Raleigh. Standout players:
Junior QB Sam Branch. Looked very poised and is going to run a lot more this year. Last year as a sophomore he started in all 12 games and did not throw any interceptions. Wouldn't be surprised to see him on the all 4a team this year.
Senior RB Kweshaun Forest. 3 year player on varsity and is now the feature back. Had some nice runs including a 70+ yard blast to the end zone against a very athletic Ravenscroft defense. Should be a 1000+ back this season.
Senior Lineman Jaden Poole. GW's line is surprisingly very good. Not Salem, but good. It starts with Poole. Played exceptional today. Tweaked his knee but should be good for Dan River next week.
GW's key to success: SOPHOMORE LB/RB Carl Poole Jr. Remember the name. 3 carries, 3 TDs on 3 straight plays. Some saying next David Wilson.. I'm saying, let the kid ball out. No extra pressure on him. Let him learn and be good. Also, GW played very disciplined. No trash talking and had ZERO penalties. Very impressive.

Overall, GW was hands down the best team on the field. Fact of the matter, the team's that they played were not good at all, except for Northern Vance who had athletes but a "blah" overall program and Ravenscroft, who looked real good. In fact, I doubt Cedar Ridge, Person or Granville Central have 8 wins between all three of them this season. As Bleeding Navy and I discussed last night, competition hurts GW. Athens Drive (0-10 last year) and EC Glass to go along with Patrick County, Martinsville and Bassett, is absolutely brutal when they get maybe 7 wins between all 5 of them. But, you play the schedule given to you and more importantly win all of them. The defense looked great. Not too far behind of last year. A bunch of youngins. Sophomores and juniors. I was mostly impressed with the O and O-line. Anytime you lose 8 starters on offense, you're going to suffer. I was impressed at the young weapons they had. Only time will tell. They have a lot of work to do.

What did you take about Liberty? To me they are a 5-5, 4-6 team

Not sure if their offense was off or if Amherst defense was that good. It was their first scrimmage. they also looked really small. I heard some Amherst JV players stating that in the stands. They will be ok I just think Amherst is going to really good this year providing they don't have any major injuries. Not sure who Liberty plays but at least 5-5 or 6-4.

They will face Chancellor, Courtland, Eastern View, Woodgrove, King George and the other Fauquier schools but those listed could be their loses

Good comments. I'm surprised by the small assertion. Obviously, these things must differ from year to year. They must. But after watching LB for over a decade, it is their line play that defines them. We'll see during the season.

Looks like our friends from Dublin did well also. I expect big things from Pulaski this season.

Botetourt will be a good challenge for the Cougars next week. LB is strong across both lines. Plenty physical, and good size. Their QB threw a good ball, but like most teams, including us, you just gotta catch the darn thing.

LB struggled a little when Dinwiddie went to their rapid fire, hurry up style offense. It's early in the season, and all of the kids are a little indecisive at this point. I'm not sure how often LB faces teams that utilize the hurry up, no huddle offense, so no harm in being behind in preparations for that.

What style offense does Pulaski run?

LB ran a counter play behind a double tight end set that was pretty successful. And LB showed very good fundamentals. Several really good open field tackles.

I don't think there is any doubt that LB is one of the top 3a teams in the state. They have some good teams to get by in the post season to make it to Williamsburg, but I certainly will not be surprised to see them there.
