Second Straight Shutout for Bethel

The Bethel Bruins have pitched two straight shutouts after opening the season 0-3 after blanking the Heritage Hurricanes 9-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins defeated Phoebus 15-0 the night before for their first win on the season.

Three Bruins combined for the shutout with Ian Brenner getting credit for the win after leaving with a 5-0 lead after three innings. Brenner struckout 6 of the 9 batters he faced. Logan Wetzler also threw three innings while JC Hardy pitched the seventh.

Bethel scored five runs in the first two innings with the help of some fielding errors by Heritage. Two walks and two errors led to three 1st inning runs and a 2-run triple by sophomore Sisqo Scott gave Bethel a 5-0 lead.

Ramel Reynolds drove in a run with a sacrafice fly in the fifth and Bethel almost ended the game in te sixth with RBI's by Exavier Cain and backup catcher Steven DeShong. Catcher Rashaun Chambers went 2 for 2 with a walk and pinch runner Malik Bryant scored two runs

Heritage pitcher Charlie Harrison pitched all six innings and had seven strikeouts while allowing four earned runs. He also gave up six walks and seven hits. Heritage had eight errors. Harrison had two of the Hurricanes three hits.
