HONORING MARINE HERO SGT. BRADFORD

In addition to honoring their seniors for their Senior Night game versus Petersburg, the Dinwiddie Generals also honored Sgt. Matt Bradford, a graduate of Dinwiddie High School who served his country in Iraq, where he was injured by an IED on Jan. 18, 2007.

According to information provided by Dinwiddie High School Athletic Director Jeff Walters, Sgt. Bradford lost both of his legs, a portion of his right hand and his sight as a result of his injuries. In 2010, Sgt. Bradford would reenlist in the Marine Corps in 2010 as the the first blind, double amputee. The Dinwiddie Football team has dedicated its 2016-2017 season to Sgt. Bradford and his Marine Corps unit, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines. The Dinwiddie Generals wore camouflage jerseys in honor of Sgt. Bradford for their home game against the Wave.

Sgt. Bradford served as honorary captain and walked out onto the field with the Dinwiddie Football captains for the coin flip. Dinwiddie Football head coach Billy Mills II walked with him back to the sideline after the coin flip. Sgt. Bradford was also recognized at halftime.

"It feels really wonderful to return home," Sgt. Bradford said at halftime. "I learned so much and met so many great people here at Dinwiddie ... it's great to be back here and to be around great friends."
