I believe I went 4 out of 6 for the Tuesday/Wednesday session but once again "they" did not cooperate. And "they" know who they are. But this time I have figured out how to outsmart them. More on that below.
Anyway, time is just zipping on by and it is hard to believe that everybody has essentially finished their non-district slate, we are almost halfway through the district games, and in some circles, we are already looking at playoff positioning. In the Shenandoah, things have been unpredictable to say the least but if you had to pick a favorite after just three district games, I guess it would have to be Stuarts Draft and its explosive offense. The Cougars are the only team unbeaten in the league, but even more impressive, all three wins have come on the road. So not only are they in first place, but the schedule is in their favor as well.
So let's see if I can finally manage to go 3-0 with a simple three-game package for this Friday night. My first red-hot tip for you is to wear your raincoat or bring your bumbershoot. And if you don't know what a bumbershoot is, call up your grandparents and go see them before the game to make sure you are carrying the right apparatus.
OK, here is this Friday's games..............
Fort Defiance at Wilson..........Should be the easy one in the bunch right? Easy to win and easy to predict. Fort might stay with the Hornets for a while, but Wilson will prevail by 15-18.
Staunton at Stuarts Draft...........Again on paper this one looks like it "should" be easy to call. After all if the Cougars can win on the road, and even win easily in two of their three games, then winning at home should be a piece of cake. However, Staunton does have two things going in its favor that will make this one more interesting. First of all, they have the athleticism and quickness to stay with the Cougars and their frenetic pace. Secondly Staunton also carries a large squad (14 or more if I recall) so that might help keep the fatigue factor more manageable, since frequent subbing is a major part of the Draft strategy. So this one could be close and the Storm "might" even burst the Cougar bubble, but I will go with the home team to win by about 8. And this one could flirt with the century mark on the scoreboard.
And now..............drum roll please................Riverheads at Buffalo Gap................Before I get started, let's make sure we are understanding the goal here. You see it is no longer a question of who wins the game with those guys out there. It is all about outsmarting me and making sure I do not predict any of their games correctly. They probably even talk about that in the locker room. Therefore the only way for me to defeat them is to INTENTIONALLY predict the game wrong. Therefore since of course I want Riverheads to win and I think they have a good chance to do that, the only way I can assure an RHS victory is to say here in front of all of you..........Buffalo Gap will win by 47. (There.......... that will show them!)
I will see you next time when I will be gloating about only finishing 2-1 with this particular set of predictions.
