Wonder why the former head football coach, Walter Barr has not been inducted into Sherando's HOF? He put Sherando football on the VHSL map back in 1996 and 1997.

The Sherando High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its 2018 class at 6 p.m. on Saturday in the school auditorium.

A reception at 5 p.m. will precede the induction ceremonies. The inductees, which include seven athletes, an administrator and a contributor, also will be recognized Friday during halftime of the varsity football game against Handley at Arrowhead Stadium.

Cassi Carter (1996)

Carter excelled in basketball, volleyball and softball and is a leader in most school records in those sports. She is second in season scoring (1994), career scoring and career rebounds and third in career steals in basketball. She is second in career triples in softball. In volleyball, she is second in pre-rally scoring digs and in pre-rally scoring kills. She was First Team All-District in basketball in 1994 and 1995, in volleyball in 1995 and in softball in 1994, 1995 and 1996.

Amin Boyer (1998)

A multiple All-District, All-Region and All-State runner with the cross country and track & field teams, Boyer is still a record holder in several categories. He is tied for most cross country wins in a career and fourth most in a season. He also holds Top 5 records in several distance runs in track & field. He captured district titles in cross country in 1994, 1995 and 1996 and was selected as The Winchester Star’s Cross Country Runner of the Year in 1994 and 1995.

Brad Payton (1997)

One of the most disruptive defensive players in Sherando football history, Payton still holds the record for most tackles in a career with 565. A three-year starter at linebacker, he earned First Team All-District and All-Region honors in 1995 and 1996 as well as Second Team All-State in 1996. He recorded the top four single game tackles marks and top two season tackles records in 1995 and 1996.

Chelsea Alverson-Folmsbee (1998)

Alverson-Folmsbee earned All-District (1995, 1996, 1997 and 1998), All-Region (1995, 1997 and 1998) and All-State (1995, 1997 and 1998) honors in both cross country and track & field. She was a member of the 1997 state championship team and is in the top five record holders in five different categories in track, including the 800 meters, 4x800 relay, 1,600, 400 and 200.

Bo Arthur (1998)

One of Sherando’s most outstanding offensive players, Arthur still holds school all-time records in career receptions (92), career yards (1,600), receptions in a season (58 in 1996) and yards in a season (1,130 in 1996). He was selected First Team All-District and All-Region in 1996 and 1997. He was First Team All-State in 1997 and Second Team All-State in 1996.

He was selected All-District, All-Region, and All-State in 1996 and 1997. He still holds school marks in the 4x400 relay and long jump and is second in the triple jump.

He was the first Sherando wrestler to win a state title and go to a national tournament. He was selected as the 1999 Winchester Star Co-Wrestler of the Year and to the 1998-1999 Washington Post All-Met second team.

John Nelson (Administrator)

John Nelson was named principal of Sherando High School in the spring of 2000 and has continued to serve for the last 18 years. Along with being an avid supporter of athletics, he works closely with the faculty and staff to promote the highest standards of academic excellence. “Being inducted into the Sherando Hall of Fame is one of the greatest experiences of my professional career,” Nelson said.

Lou Ann Thompson (Contributor)

She served as the club’s president in 1993-1994 and 2007-2008. From its inception, the club has sold concessions at all sporting events, established sponsorship partners with several local companies and has organized many fund-raising and spirit events. She is credited with conceiving and creating many of the well-known Sherando traditions including the fireworks at the home football games and the Homecoming Parade.

Just to correct some mis information, I was asked to pass along some information from the higher ups.——-
“tell everyone agree with the nice comment about Walter Barr, he simply does not meet the criteria required for a coach to be inducted? We cant divulge all of the criteria but its pretty significant - also, someone mentioned the introductions are before the game, they arent, its at halftime - but will be kept to under 5 minutes and done while the band is setting up. I just want to curb any mis-information.”
Message passed.
