So, take this with a grain of salt since I'm not entirely confident that my sources are correct. Since 2005 (which is the oldest season I could find for either team), Louisa County and Sherando have played one another twice. The first was in 2005 at Louisa County, where Sherando won 48-35. More recently the Lions defeated the Warriors in Stephens City by a score of 26-25, which ended Sherando's 2011 season.

Last season Louisa County had their season ended at 7-4 against Woodgrove in their first playoff game. Sherando was 9-2 before falling to Liberty for the second time in 2014.

Predictions for this year's season opener for both schools?

It's the opener and you really can't tell what will happen. Two solid programs although Louisa, at home, in front of a very raucous crown (which it always is at Louisa) and the Head Coach's inspirational leadership in the face of his disease will produce one very pumped and confident squad taking the field. Very difficult situation for The Warrior's first game.

They will have to hang tough against an early Lion deluge, get into the flow of this game and make good halftime adjustments. I have Sherando winning but it will be closer than I originally thought. GL to both.

2005-2006 was my senior year, and I remember that Sherando game like it was yesterday. It felt like we were going to go on a run to states a year sooner, but then Bradley Starks and Orange exposed our defense in a thriller, and the season went downhill from there. I still don't know what happened, even William Monroe scored 40 on us! It wasn't a good sign with Ross Metheny coming to town the next week. Neither team could stop each other, and Louisa had a chance to win with the score 41-35, but Rontray Houchens fumbled on our final drive and Sherando scooped it and scored. Amazing game. Went to the Sherando/Powhatan game two weeks later and all I could think were "woulda coulda shoulda's" as I watched both teams struggle against each other's defense.

2011 saw an up and down Louisa team that had some injuries go into Warrior Land and take it to the hosts with a defensive first half, then an exciting shootout in the second half. I gotta commend Coach Meeks for calling his inner Fischer and going for the two-point conversion in overtime! I thought Sherando looked like a weaker Powhatan, and I was right, since we re-matched Powhatan the following week and lost 35-0, haha.

Tomorrow will be fun. I think both teams will come out fired up and eager to take the lead in the short series. It'll come down to who executes better on offense.

Not feeling as good about SHS chances as I was, but we will see what happens. every team has to have leaders to become a good team. lots of talent doesn't equal wins on the field. I will see if someone steps up in Louisa, we will find out if this warrior team has any heart. still got the warriors winning this game, 38-28. the difference being I think the Warriors have a better defense , and the Warriors are more versatile on Offense. But who really knows, that's why the games are played.
