Skyline scored on their opening drive, with A.J. Dueweke connecting on a 29 yard field goal with 8:24 left in the first quarter. Handley took the lead on a 35 yard touchdown pass from Dearing to Mauck with 2:56 left in the first quarter. Skyline scored on their next possession though, with Corban Ruch running one in from 40 yards out to put the Hawks up 10-7 with 1:35 left in the first quarter.
Handley did not let Skyline hold the lead long, though, as Dearing connected again to Mauck, this time on a 43 yard strike. The Judges took a 14-10 lead with 11:23 left in the 2nd quarter. The scoring slowed a bit, with both defenses stepping up, but Handley scored next on a 23 yard run by Quay Pannell with 5:34 left in the 2nd quarter. The XP put Handley up 21-10.
Skyline drove deep into Handley territory, but had to settle for an A.J. Dueweke FG with 2:34 left before halftime, to cut the lead to 21-13, which was the score at the half.
The defenses for both teams again stepped up, forcing punts back and forth. Corban Ruch finally broke the scoring drought for both teams with 1:48 left in the 3rd quarter on an 8 yard keeper. Ruch then hit Jamal Parker on a slant for the 2-point conversion, tying the game at 21-21. The Hawks never trailed again.
Corban Ruch connected on a 69 yard touchdown pass to Jamal Parker to put the Hawks up 28-21 with 10:47 left in the game. Handley evened things up quickly, however, as Dearing hit Justin Washington for a 9 yard touchdown. This was a very fine catch as he had to stretch out near the ground on a ball that was thrown sharply. The extra point was good, and the game was tied again at 28 with 7:49 remaining.
Skyline had a nice drive, but stalled and had to settled for a 34 yard FG attempt. This time, it was no good. But on the ensuing possession, Skyline's Hunter Partlowe jumped the route on a Handley screen, made the interception, and set the Hawks up deep in Handley territory. Jerrius Baltimore finished off this drive with a 6 yard touchdown run with 50.1 seconds left.
Handley fumbled on the 2nd play after the kickoff, and Skyline took a knee, and the victory.

Great effort by Skyline!

What a great game that must have been for the fans to watch. Thanks schoolboard for such a good report. Surprised you could keep track of all the scoring and announce too! Skyline's now 7-2 and beat a very athletic team tonight. To have this team at 7-2, Gilbert and his staff have probably exceeded everyone's expectations to this point. That's coaching up the kids well!

The Hawks have soared

Anything is possible. I have all respect in the world for Sherando football. That said, I am sure Coach Hall will not take anything for granted when the Hawks invade Arrowhead next weekend. Anyone that says Gilbert can't coach doesn't know football. And I don't want anyone nit-picking about the strength of schedule either. They've won tight games in the end (Millbrook and Handley) and likely would beat Fauquier if they played a second time. Kettle Run is the only opponent that has pushed them around. Not bad, as far as I'm concerned. Good luck to both Sherando and Skyline next weekend. I'll keep track of that one from afar.

Hampsear said this about that

"Sherando will destroy Skyline this year, there is no comparison in talent, speed etc.." And he said this last week after personally viewing Skyline rout James Wood. So I am sure he knows best.

Re: Hampsear said this about that

Listen Schoolboard , don't drag me into your party fest over here. Yes I did say that, but I also said that skyline has vastly improved and complimented there execution , and the coach was very good. Destroy might have been harsh, but there really is not a talent contest between Sherando and skyline. if Skyline beats Sherando, it won't be beacause of talent it will be because they were out played and out coached. Congratulations to Skyline on very impressive victory. I was rooting for you. it won't be the same at Arrowhead next Friday. and I am not being a smart-ass, I expect Skyline to bring there A game , and give the warriors a great game. skyline proved to me how much better they have gotten, Sherando better be ready.

Sorry to direct quote you

But this is a serious question. Did you think Skyline had the same talent as Handley? I was very unimpressed with the offensive and defensive line of Handley. I am shocked that Sherando did not have its way with the Handley lines all day when you guys played. And I was only bringing your quote up to dampen the expectations when those other guys started talking crazy stuff. I also think Skyline might have a Handley-win hangover and it might be even easier for Sherando next week.

Re: Sorry to direct quote you

Serious answer, As far as college bound talent, Handley would have the edge for me in that category. this was just a perfect example of how very good coaching system, along with a team that believes in each other will win games over slightly more talented team. I believe yes , maybe Handley was still a little beat up emotionally from last Saturday, But that shouldn't take away from Skyline outstanding effort and that's football, have to be ready to play every week. in the Sherando - Handley game , really no explanation except Sherando has had a bad habit of starting off slow, and being lethargic, and could bite them in the butt in the playoffs. I thought Handleys Dline was pretty good in the first half against Sherando , and got dominated in the second half. Sherando Defense didn't step up in the first half of the Handley game, but corrected some alignment issues, and played better the second. I don't want you to think Skyline doesn't have any talent, sure they do. Sherando should use this game as a I opener for preparation for the coming Friday. or they could lose just like Handley. the offensive and defensive line execution of Skyline should be considered a strong point of the Hawks team, and they proved it against Handley. I was not at your game, can you tell me how the Hawks covered the wideouts for Handley? Was it man, or Zone? And did you get pressure on DEARING ? That seems to be what helped Sherando late on Saturday, once they contained and started pressuring DEARING, the game changed drastically.

Re: Sorry to direct quote you

I will answer the 2nd part first. There was definitely a lot of pressure on Dearing. Sometimes it was linebackers, sometimes it was just the lineman, and there were a few really effective corner blitzes in the 2nd half. There was a mixture of man and zone. I think more zone when they were preventing late. One other thing, Mauck and Frisby got cramps in the 4th quarter, so that may have taken a little away from their explosiveness late.
