Manassas Park jumped out to an early lead and held it for the entire first half, but the Skyline Hawks battled back before winning comfortably 83-71 before a socially-distanced crowd on Wednesday night in Front Royal.

The Cougars held a 21-14 lead after one quarter behind the scoring of Cameron Dixon who cut through the Hawks defense and scored from point-blank range. Jace Garza and Isaac Malik-Duarte added some 3-pointers, and the Hawks were having trouble keeping it close. Zack Diggs had all 8 of his points in the first half, and helped Skyline cut the deficit to 36-33 at the half. Skyline did hold the rebounding advantage t 16-10 for the half, with many offensive rebounds leading to layups.

The Hawks inched ahead in the third quarter behind Ethan Caperton, who was effective both from beyond the arc and driving to the basket. Caperton was the leading scorer for both teams, finishing the game with 26 points. The Hawks held a 60-58 lead at the end of the third quarter, and the lead would have been more, but Payton Simmons was on fire for the Cougars, scoring 16 out of the 18 points in the 2nd half.

The Hawks were able to stretch the lead throughout the 4th quarter with more scoring by Caperton and also lots of 2nd chance points by Budder Haley, who scored 14 of his 18 points in the 2nd half. The Hawks continued their rebounding dominance, finishing the game with a 38-24 advantage, with Marlon Jackson leading the way with 9 boards.

The Hawks improved to 4-0 on the season and travel to Warren County Friday night.
