It took 2 days and a late comeback, but the Skyline Hawks defeated the Broadway Gobblers by a score of 21-20 on Saturday.

Broadway got on the board first on Friday night, but it took them two possessions to do it. On the Gobblers first possession, they were moving the ball well until Ty Clingerman ended the drive with an interception in the red zone. On their next possession, Broadway took advantage of good field position, and converted a fourth down throw for a 15 yard touchdown to Bryar Wheeler to take a 7-0 lead.

On Broadway's next possession, they were forced into a three and out. LT Barber started his punt return in Skyline territory and hit the edge and ran down the sideline before cutting back to the middle of the field for the last 20 yards of his touchdown return. Douglas Cumming's conversion tied it up at 7-7 with 8:06 left in the 2nd quarter.

And that's when lightning struck. Literally. After a lengthy delay, the decision was made to continue the game at 11:00AM Saturday morning.

Each team had 1 more possession in the first half, and even though the Hawks were much more productive, including two catches by Caleb Reedy for 40 yards, time expired before Skyline could add any points before intermission.

The first possession of the 2nd half was all Brandon Cruz, as he had six carries and one reception, ending with a 10 yard scoring run. The PAT failed, and the Gobblers were up 13-7 with 9:01 left in the third quarter.

Broadway almost scored on their next possession, but a holding penalty and a sack by Jayden Norwood, set up a 4th and goal from the 32. Broadway completed a pass, but was stopped at the 1 yard line, and the ball turned over on downs.

The Hawks struggled backed up on their goal line, and Broadway got the ball back at the Hawk 22 yard line. Cruz ran it in from 8 yards out on the 2nd play of the possession and the Gobblers were up 20-7 with 9:30 left in the 4th quarter.

Then the sun came out, and things got hot on and off the field. Skyline had a 10 play drive, which was extended when Chase Tasker connected with Anthony Domino on 4th and 10 for a 10 yard gain plus a personal foul. Tasker finished the drive with a 21 yard touchdown pass to LT Barber to cut the score to 20-14 with 6:58 to go in the game.

Then the Hawks defense stepped up, and on a third and 10, Nathan Abel recovered a fumbled snap to give Skyline the ball on the Broadway 30.

Six plays later, Caleb Reedy ran it in from 5 yards out, and the conversion kick put the Hawks up to stay 21-20 with 3:04 remaining.

The Gobblers had one last chance, but pass deflections by Clingerman, Barber, and Ion and a ball knocked down on a desperation 4th and 16 throw, and the ball turned over on downs. The Hawks took a knee three times to seal the victory.

In unofficial statistics, Chase Tasker was 10 for 21 throwing, for 132 yards. Skyline rushing leaders were Clingerman(7 carries for 33 yards), Ion(5 for 20), Reedy(5 for 25) and Barber(3 for 14). Cruz had 161 yards on 23 carries for Broadway.

The Hawks will travel to take on Jame Wood on Friday at 7:00.
