Maret 53 Woodberry Forest 52 OT

buried a 3-pointer with 25 seconds to go in overtime and Luke Garza scored 26 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and had two blocks to lead Maret School to a 53-52 win over Woodberry Forest in the 7th place game of the Sleepy Thompson tournament.

Maret led by 11 early in the 2nd quarter but Woodberry Forest pulled to within four after the 3rd quarter behind the shooting of Joe Foley who finished with 21 points including three treys.

Garza dominated inside against the Tigers frontline and finished 9 of 22 from the field. Coby Davis was the only other player in double figures for Maret scoring 13 points, while adding four steals and two blocks. Thomas Bledsoe had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Woodberry Forest.

Norfolk Collegiate 61 Bishop Ireton 41

A big third quarter opened up a 22 point lead and Norfolk Collegiate cruised to a 61-41 blowout win over Bishop Ireton. Adam Grant led the Oaks 3rd quarter charge finishing with His 3-pointer and putback led an 16-0 run that gave the Oaks a 50-28 lead.

The 1st half was very competitive with Norfolk Collegiate lead 7-2 to start the game only to see the Cardinals cut the margin to one at 16-15 after a layup by Arminas Kleisys.

Grant finished with 20 points and two 3-pointers while adding two assists and one steal. Bash Townes posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds while Kyonze Chavis added 14 points, six rebounds and a game-high five assists.

Bishop Ireton was limited to only 28% shooting from the filed. They were led in scoring by by Nicholas Schmelzer and Chauncey Lynch who both scored nine points.

St Stephens-St Agnes 57 St Anne's-Belfield 52

St Stephens-St Agnes led by 21 points after the 3rd quarter but had to hold off a furious rally by St Anne's-Belfield to win the 3rd place game in the Sleepy Thompson tournament. Sophomore Donovan Toatley scored 27 points for the Saints on 10 of 19 shooting from the field.

Toatley scored 20 of his 27 points in the 1st half. He scored the last five points of the 1st quarter to give the home Saints a 17-14 lead after one. Toatley was 4 of 6 from behind the 3-point line in the 1st half as the St Stephens-St Agnes took a 7-point lead. Duke commit Javin Montgomery-Delaurier scored back-to-back baskets to bring St Anne's-Belfield to within five at halftime.

The game was close at halftime with St Stephens-St Agnes leading 32-27. They opened up a huge lead by scoring the final 16 points of the 3rd quarter to take a 51-30 lead heading into the final period. St Anne's-Belfield went ice cold after the halftime break scoring only three points.

They game appeared to be out-of-reach for St Anne's-Belfield but they went on a 21-2 run to pull within two (53-51) with 1:24 remaining on the clock after a layup by Kareem Johnson. However two turnovers in the final minute sealed a chance for a comeback.

Joining Toatley in double figures was Virginia football commit Andrew Trainer who tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Chauncey Pittman scored only two points but added nine rebounds. Denmark Slay had six assists, four rebounds, and seven points. Montgomery-Delaurier led St Anne's-Belfield with 17 points, 13 rebounds and five assists. Jayden Nixon chipped in 13 points.
 
Episcopal 58 Atlantic Shores 49
Championship Game


Episcopal won the 60th annual Sleepy Thompson basketball tournament with a 58-49 win over Atlantic Shores. Edwin Ebube led three Maroon players in double figures finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Atlantic Shores led 32-27 at halftime. Junior George Mawanda-Kalema made a couple of early baskets. His deep three at the buzzer gave Episcopal a 15-14 lead after the 1st quarter. Mawanda-Kalema finished the game with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Episcopal took a 6-point lead to start the 2nd quarter but back-to-back treys by Gintaras Bartaskas and Marvin Trotman tied the game at 20. A layup by Mastadi Pitt completed an 8-0 run to give the Seahawks a 22-20 lead. Pitt added a three with under a minute to go before halftime to give Atlantic Shores a 32-27 halftime lead. Pitt ended the day with 23 points and five rebounds.

The pace slowed a bit in the second half with both teams combining for 22 points. Nick Reed hit a three to knot the score at 38 with less than 90 seconds to go in the 3rd quarter.

Episcopal pulled away down the stretch holding Atlantic Shores to only seven points in the 4th quarter.
