Oscar Smith has one more scrimmage before meeting the Springers

Unlike Salem, who starts their football schedule next week, Oscar Smith has a scrimmage against L.C. Bird left to play before they face Highland Springs in their opener after Labor Day.
The Tigers had their first chance to slap pads with another team on Wednesday, and head coach Chris Scott was pleased with what he saw from his squad. For the coach it was about setting up his team for improvement.
“I feel good about a lot of things because there are a lot of teachable moments. When you get those things on film going against another very competitive team, a team that’s talented, a team that’s well coached… when you can get those things on film it’s something solid to move on from and to teach the guys,” said Scott. “The eye in the sky doesn’t lie. When we get a chance to line up, when we get a chance to see what our adjustments were and how we played there, then it’s going to be a teachable moment.”
Five different players scored for Oscar Smith on Wednesday. That’s a good sign for an Oscar Smith team that’s typically prolific on offense.
“Our offense is very explosive. There’s probably five more guys who weren’t in on those plays who could do the same thing that those young men did. If we can spread the ball around like that and be unselfish, and have home run hitters from everywhere on the field, we have a chance to be very special (this year),” said the coach. “I’m excited most that we played as a team. We had five different guys scoring. We had multiple different guys on defense subbing three and four guys on every other play and those guys got out there and flew around. We have a lot of sophomores out there making big time plays.”
That means that the future could be bright for Oscar Smith. Highland Springs is a big hurdle. Win or lose, the Tigers will almost certainly be primed to take on the district schedule after the tests they will have faced.
