Charles City will not be fielding a varsity football team this year.

Question ? Can the kids play for a neighbouring school while attending Charles City just curious.

Kids can't play at another VHSL member school in any jurisdiction if a school is unable to field a team. In order for kids who live in Charles City to play football, they will have to transfer as part of a family move to another jurisdiction and enroll in another school to gain eligibility.

That is correct. In the case of Park View-Sterling the VHSL is waiving the transfer rule if students want to play at Freedom High School. That situation is unique because both schools are located in Loudoun County.

And this rule is an excellent one! It prevents or hinders a program from dominating in the area of transfers. It is really unfortunate for the kids at Charles City, Park View, and possibly even Manassas Park (stay tuned on that one) but.......the rule is in place for a reason. If it were not in place, and kids just go where they wished without having to attend the school they play at, coupled with a family move, then a school like Narrows may have had trouble fielding a football team 5 or 10 years ago. Many would have beaten down the door to play at Giles.

Kids at Bland may have been wanting to play at George Wythe, etc. Without the current rules in place, you would actually have many MORE schools that would not be able to field a team, especially at the 1A and 2A levels. Rye Cove and Twin Springs would have gone years without a football team as nearby Gate City isnt far. For some of these tiny schools that sometimes would only field 20 to 24 players grades 9-12, it would only take a few to go somewhere else and then you dont even have the ability to put 11 guys in practice against your starting O or D, etc. It sucks for the kids at Charles City, but the rule in place is a good one.

Does anyone know how this will impact teams with them on the schedule?
I know King and queen forfeited games last year but they had already begun play. I can't see teams getting points for wins against a team nobody played, will schools try to pick up a 10th game or roll with 9?
I know teams in NoVa seem to be scrambling to fill the hole park view left.
