Sometimes Re-Matches Can Be a Good Thing!

I know that our good buddy HR 6 gets on here every year at this time and complains about playoff re-matches and how they should be avoided at all costs. So if he has not already done that, on one thread or another, I am sure he will get around to it.

In our general Valley area, I have discovered two on the docket, with Covington making a trip to Pioneer District foe Parry McCluer, and Turner Ashby visiting Spotswood in a Valley District re-match. It is that latter one that has inspired this post.

You see my Gladiators have the weekend off, due to 1-A East having only a 12-team playoff, so I was already thinking "hmmm where can I go Friday night to see the best possible game?" and I was discouraged by the ones involving our own district. Stuarts Draft, East Rock and Buffalo Gap are all hosting games, but I just could not find myself getting excited about any of them.

But when I saw the Spotswood/TA game on the list this morning in the paper, that made up my mind for me. It will be an 8/9 game first of all, but also they had a real barnburner in the regular season, although I don't recall the details this exact moment. That is where I will be this week and I hope other neutral fans can find a game to attend, even if it does have to be a re-match.

Richlands has John Battle in round one, a team we haven't played in football since 93. The second round brings either Glenvar or Gate City to Richlands (assuming a victory over Battle). I don't know that Richlands has ever played Glenvar, but they play Gate City in the first game every year. Round three likely means we will go to Graham or host Martinsville (if they were to upset Graham and Richlands wins in round 2). So there are potentials for rematches and for new teams. I don't think it means as much to me as it does to some.
