Well, they were 3-0. So they deserved the attention that that brings. And if they only had to play teams at their level, such as their first three opponents, we could expect good things out of them. The reality is, they are now working through their district schedule. Which includes 5aMatoaca, Hopewell, 4aDinwiddie, 5a Prince George, Petersburg, (and Appomattox). The problem CH faces is depth, and total number of good athletes.
Your larger schools typically have only a handful of players going both ways, and even then, they may not be on the field for every play. Schools like CH have to use their limited number of good athletes almost on every play. Good conditioning or not, they get a little tired by the second half. And that half step they may be giving up is against fresher legs.
All this simply means that is no matter how good CH is, they face a terrible uphill battle trying to hang with the bigger and faster Central District teams, as well as Appomattox.
CH Coach Edwards is a very good coach and an even better person. But, it will take him more than one season to get his Colonials where they can expect to get more than the occasional Central District win. But, if the CH community will stay behind him and support him, he can accomplish great things.
