BREAKING: The Virginia High School League announces that the 2020 Spring Sports season will be delayed by two weeks, and that, as of now, seasons may begin on Monday March 30th. The VHSL Crisis Management Committee will reconvene on March 25th to reassess the situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Local jurisdictions are permitted to hold practices, and any scheduled games canceled due to closed schools, states of emergency, etc, will not be counted as forfeits. All spring state championship events are still, at this time, scheduled for their original dates.

Saturday, Dr. James Lane, Superintendent of Public Instruction for Virginia provided clarification to school superintendents that during the two weeks that Virginia’s public schools are closed, all school-sponsored activities, including athletics and practices, are not allowed. VHSL Executive Director Dr. John W. "Billy" Haun discusses the VHSL's current position and more during this crisis:

I’ve heard reports that the virus, unless we find a cure real soon, would peak around May. In that case spring sports may get cancelled, as well as school being forced online.

It’s a sad predicament we’re in, especially for the Seniors and the juniors trying to prove that they belong at the next level.

I'm saying there will not be any spring sports. Numerous divisions have already extended the 2 week hiatus until April 17. I see many others following and the rest of the school year is legitimately in jeopardy as well.
