St Michael Catholic reaches State Semi-finals

Saint Michael survived a game-winning and game-tying basket in the final 30 seconds to hold on to defeat Hampton Christian 70-67. The win sends St Michael to the State semi-finals on Friday.

St Michael led 59-52 after a 3-pointer by J.T Harman early in the 4th quarter. But a three by Asher Joyce ended a 6-0 run to bring Hampton Christian to within one. The home Warriors took the lead after a three by Bryce Harris with 4:07 remaining in the game.

But Harman put St Michael back in front 66-65 with his third 3-pointer in the 4th quarter. Amir Savage tipped in his own shot and St. Michael led by three (68-65) with under two minutes to go.

Trailing by one, Hampton Christian couldnt convert an inside basket, and Matt Holland made two free throws with 7.9 on the clock. The home Warriors final 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off ending the game.

Amir Savage scored 23 points while grabbing nine rebounds. Harman made five three's to finish with 17 points. Odita Aguolu finished with 13 points. Junior point guard Jae'den Stewart had seven points and six assists.

Senior Sean O' Connor led Hampton Christian with 24 points while Matino Henry and Bryce Harris each had 12 points. Khristian Peebles had six assists and six rebounds.
