Stone Bridge 64 Broad Run 7

For sure. Not sure anyone would have projected a 64-7 score though. That was a rout from the opening kickoff tonight.

I watched it on line. Stone Bridge is scary good. They are clearly the team to beat. I couldn't see any weaknesses tonight. Good sound defense, Solid run game with great line play and a really good QB making accurate passes whenever he wants. The "likely" Final Four in Class 5 (Green Run, Maury, Stone Bridge and Highland Springs) could have 2 Barn Burners in the Semis, GR vs Maury and SB vs HSHS, playing for the right to go to the Ship at ODU!!

Went to this game. Early turnovers put Broad Run in a big hole but I don't think it made a huge difference to the result, Stone Bridge offense was just unstoppable. Thought Thomas had some nice throws while on the move, he is having one of the great calendar years for a high school athlete. Could be a battle of unbeatens when Stone Bridge plays Independence at the end of the year but SB is going to be heavy favorites in that one after this performance.

Shame it wasn't closer since it was nearly a full house and shaped up to be a great atmosphere had it been a better game.

The soccer stadium where they held the game (Segra Field) is weird, like they ran out of money before the stadium was fully complete. Only scoreboard is this tiny thing in one of the corners which you couldn't see from much of the Broad Run side, no press box and hard to make out the PA announcements. Hopefully they iron out those issues because the actual seating and viewing experience is nice and it would be cool if they had more games there in the future.

Good observations about Segra Field. The PA system was horrendous. There must have been some speakers not working. The temporary goal posts were a bit odd to see but not much can be done about that. Maybe they can get this game back there soon. I would think the $$ from the gate was some of the highest they have seen since Segra opened.

I kind of smell a HS v SB matchup in the State Semis up there. Maybe it could be there.

I understand your thought, but if that came to be I absolutely do not see SB giving up their home field at the high school for a game with that much at stake.

Certainly wouldn’t give up home field to play on a neutral field (despite the close proximity). Both HS & SB have a long way to go to get to that point though. Good teams like these will take it week by week, play the opponent in front of them, and work to correct mistakes as the season goes along. I think we all can agree that HS v SB has become one of the better matchups we’ve seen over the past few years in the state. Still 3-1 in HS favor. Maury, Green Run, and Mountain View won’t just exit the room without a fight.

I’m interested in that team Independence HS with their FSU COMMIT QB. They face SB week 10.

Well said and absolutely right. Over the past 6 years, SBvHS has become a State Favorite! Great rivalry!

Indy is a good football team, they have risen quickly since opening just a few years ago. Their head coach was Stone Bridge’s defensive coordinator under Thompson for a number of years. In fact, his wife is the AD at Stone Bridge. However I will tell you that their schedule has not even come close to testing them yet. That will be a completely different exam in Week 10.

I just gotta say if all goes right this definitely going to be a great state semifinals in class 5A like put the teams at a college stadium and do a double hitter good

Springers, over the years, have played their best game at away sites, Remember, with the new school being built, they didn't have a home field for 2 years.

Indeed they have Springer. Defense always travels. Let’s hope these teams stay healthy, avoid Covid and find another game against each other 1 week before the championship.

HS plays tough Patrick Henry (4-1) this Friday. In game 10 our rival Varina (5-0) and they could be 9-0 when we play. Considering PH and Varina are now Class 4, I think HS will breeze through the 5C Regionals.

It was hard to watch the broadcast too at times. Fans would stand up right in front of the camera. Hayes did a great job of using a field camera as well. Would have been nice to put some temporary paint in the field for the teams.
