As you guys well know, those NFHS livestreams can be anywhere from awful to pretty decent. For what it is worth, my experience has shown that watching a game after the fact gets much better results than trying to watch one live.

But that is not my main topic for today. I have just finished watching the replay of last Friday's Fort Defiance/Riverheads game and for one of the few times, it played all the way through with no freeze-ups. However, the real feature of this broadcast was having a radio commentator (Riverheads own Leland McCray) following the stream and giving a play by play assessment of the game.

I mention that because last week as we discussed on here, the game at Wilson was streamed in absolute silence. You could not even hear the PA announcer or any crowd noise. As a result it was very boring to watch.

So my suggestion today is for more schools around the state to at least discuss whether or not they could offer any play by play coverage of their games to accompany the livestreams. I realize that not all schools could do it and that it would likely require sponsorship, but if even some could accomplish it, it would add so much more to the quality of these streams. Of course local radio personalities would be the best choice, and even if they do not have prior football experience, I am sure they could grow into the role.

It is something to think about because it really does add to the game. Just imagine watching a college or pro game on TV with no commentary and you should be able to relate.

Last Spring the Riverheads games were streamed live , at least the home games with play by play and I thought it was pretty good . I would say it was better on YouuTube than NFHS . Now the gates are open for all to attend the games , so I guess thats why it's not happening this season , Maybe if someone had some inside pull they would Stream live again ?

Nfhs can tap into each schools pa and timeclock but nfhs does not have enough resources to live stream at a decent data rate.

I watched the Luray-Page game on the NFHS and they had 3 announcers and it sounded about as professional as a local high school broadcast could be. I think the camera was still operated by Roomba, but at least they were there and could describe things that went out of frame.

I would hope that each school would do its best to enhance the broadcast for their fans who cannot be there.

I also know that Skyline had to replace crashed equipment, which is surprising that it died so quickly, but it wasn't down too long, so the replacement parts must have come pretty quickly.
