Who is the team in Class 5 that no one is talking about maybe we should be?

Who is the team in Class 5 that might disappoint in 2018?

I'm just thinking the question over and the biggest name/program that comes to mind 1st is HERMITAGE.... I know they always have the talent, question is.... this new coach. HS will find out on their brand new turf field 1st game, Aug. 24th (I think)....

they could be a surprise or they could be a disappointment! Who knows!

I look for Hermitage to win only about 5 games. That would be my disappointing team.

I'll go out on a limb a little and say the Deep Run surprises us some. They lose a fair amount of starters, but they had a fairly deep roster. They won five games last season. I say they win seven or eight during the regular season, and probably win one game in the playoffs.

Deep Run will be offensively tough to beat.

I think MBK is going to surprise some! I think Coach Thompson will have them ready!

Here's my Class 5 Central Region top 5
1 HSHS
2 BIRD
3 VARINA
4 MBK
5 DEEP RUN

Not much deep thought or analysis just yet but here are my thoughts...

1... Highland Springs
2... Varina
3... LC Bird
4... Henrico
5... Hermitage
6... Lee-Davis
7... Deep Run
8... Mills Godwin
9... Meadowbrook
10... Atlee

I agree, Bird has to regain my vote of confidence.

I know you are high on Varina, but I'm not 100% confident. The Blue Devils have had a tendency to implode and self-destruct over the years. I'll play the "wait and see" game.

DSH, are you going to Salem tomorrow?

I'm not sure if Mike will be up to another day out in the sun tomorrow. It beat him up some today.
Heck, I was soaking wet at Moyer, and I was standing on the top row with the wind blowing. And tomorrow will be hotter. (I can't wait until nice chilly football season!)

HSHS Alumni Assn. Is having a BIG cook out / Cornhole Tournament with a Silent Auction and raffle of some nice prizes as a fund raiser for the football team tomorrow. Good times ahead!

The heat may be too much on dad tomorrow. We’ll probably just hang around here. Wish it was later in the day where it would be cooler. I still remember how hot it was when @hamspear ‘s boys beat my high school (Tunstall) back in 2013 at Radford. I don’t think I’ve ever been that hot before. You wouldn’t think it would be that hot in the mountains.

Well, you take good care of your dad. He is as tough as they come, but he is not 19 anymore!

That Roanoke area seems to trap the hot air sometimes. I don't know if it's the geology or what, but it can get brutal out there.

Hey DSH, I learned some irony today at GW Danville HS
Varina will surprise a lot of people. I agree Herm will be the biggest disappointment and I’m not drinking the Bird Kool Aid. I don’t believe Herm will lose 5 games but they’ll lose to Springs & Varina.
Hey DSH I learned today that A high school friend of mine (HSHS graduate) and HSHSformer head football coach, is the Principle at GW High School in Danville!
Randy Stokes.

Yep!! I didn't know he was the head coach, but I did know he came from Highland Springs. I don't know him, only heard about him.

He's a great guy!! He was my friend in High School, graduated same class with me, Class of '76 baby!!! He was head coach at HS in the 90's, after Ward and before Scott Burton.

Springers, they had organized schools way back then? I thought you were taught to read sitting under a tree beside a log cabin? In fact, did they even have books back then?

I love hearing stories from you really old guys. We young guys have to relive history through your eyes.
