Instead of creating a new thread for every day, I figured I would just create a monthly thread and keep posting in it daily instead.

March 19

Baseball:

Union 17, Ridgeview 2

A hit parade helped make David Wyrick’s debut as the head baseball coach at Union High School a success.

Eleven different players accounted for Union’s 15 hits as the Bears rolled past Ridgeview, 17-2, on Tuesday for a season-opening Mountain 7 District victory.

Mason Caldwell had two hits and three RBIs in the win, while Austin Gibson, Nate Bailey and Kalen Gardner each had two hits. Union scored 11 runs in the second inning.

Caldwell, Brody Gibson and Austin Gibson combined to pitch a three-hitter.

Gabe Counts had two of Ridgeview’s three hits and scored a run for the Wolfpack.

Wise County Central 13, (1A) Eastside 5

Landon Elkins and Daniel Lawson each had two hits as the Wise County Central Warriors cruised past Eastside.

Softball:

Gate City 15, Lee High 0

Sarah Thompson, Kiersten Quillen and Avery Johnson each had three hits as the Blue Devils posted a Mountain 7 District win over the Generals.

Thompson had three doubles and drove in five runs for Gate City (3-0, 1-0).

(1A) Rural Retreat 11, Marion 7

Alexis Ryan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs as Rural Retreat recorded a win over the Marion Scarlet Hurricanes.

Freshman Candice Miller pitched a complete-game six-hitter for the Indians.

(1A) Holston 12, Virginia High 4

Maggie Orfield and Lexie Lane each had three hits as Holston hammered out a victory over the Virginia High Bearcats.

Kylie James had two hits for Virginia High.

The two teams combined for 20 hits and 10 errors.

Girls Soccer:

John Battle 2, (3A) Abingdon 1

Michaela Monk and Jules Lemmon scored goals as the John Battle Trojans improved to 2-0.

(1A) George Wythe 4, Marion 0

Nevada Kincer scored two goals to highlight George Wythe’s win over Marion.

March 20:

Baseball:


Union 18, (1A) Eastside 2

Nate Bailey and Cam Bartee combined to pitch a three-hitter with 12 strikeouts and the duo also had three RBIs apiece as the Union Bears bopped Eastside and improved to 2-0.

Union scored 14 runs in the first inning en route to the victory. Bryce Guerrant also had three RBIs in the triumph.

Eastside’s only hits came courtesy of Nick Raymond and Tyler Sanders. Blake Jones and Ahren Lee scored the runs for the Spartans.

Gate City 12, Lee High 0

Tyler Hamm had three hits, Carson Jenkins collected three RBIs and Drew Meyers pitched a three-hit shutout as Gate City overwhelmed the Generals of Lee High for a Mountain 7 District victory.

Softball:

Wise Central 13, (1A) Rye Cove 5

Brittany Mullins and Brook Porter are still getting it done.

After leading Wise County Central’s girls basketball team to a state title earlier this month, the duo helped the Warriors open the softball season with a victory.

Porter went 3-for-4, scored twice and socked a two-run homer in the fifth inning.

Mullins was 2-for-5, scored twice and led off the game with a home run.

Kennedy Taylor had two hits for Rye Cove.
 
March 22:

Baseball:

(3A) Abingdon 19, Lee High 2

Sophomore Ethan Ketron drove in seven runs on three hits, including a grand slam, as the Falcons cruised to a Mountain 7 District win over the Generals.

Abingdon pitcher T. J. Taylor struck out seven in three innings of work. The Falcons (2-0) scored 11 runs in the third inning.

Colby Reed supplied a run single for Lee High, now 1-2.

John Battle 14, Ridgeview 6

Zane Poe worked five innings of hitless baseball and was one of three Trojans with two hits for John Battle against the Wolfpack.

Dylan Cunningham drove in four runs for John Battle (1-1). Micah Witt and Zach Whitt joined Poe with two hits apiece.

Garret Bowman took the loss for Ridgeview.
 
March 27

Baseball:

(1A) Chilhowie 7, Marion 2

Daniel Boardwine smashed a two run home run in the fifth inning to give the Warriors the lead en route to a win over the Scarlet Hurricanes.

Boardwine finished with a pair of hits and three RBI's.

Greg Sanchez delivered a pair of doubles for the Warriors (8-0) with two runs batted in and scored three runs.

Landon McClure went the distance on the mound for the win with eight strikeouts.

Union 5, Gate City 1

Austin Gibson had two doubles and scored twice in the Bears' home win over the Blue Devils.

Nate Bailey allowed just two hits, while striking out 15 and walking two in 6 2/3 innings for Union. Cam Bartee had two hits and Noah Bolling scored a pair of runs.

Cole Mullins, Bailey and Bartee drove in a run apiece for the Bears.

Tyler Hamm doubled and Jon Compton singled for the Blue Devils. Drew Meyers took the loss.

(1A) Twin Springs 5, Ridgeview 4

Cole Burke had two hits and drove in three runs and Justin Reed scored three runs for the Titans.

McKenzie Sproles had doubles, drove in a run and scored a run for the Wolfpack. Sproles struck out 11 in taking the loss on the mound.

Tanner Dingus picked up the win for Twin Springs, striking out nine in 4 2/3 innings. Reed finished up over the final two frames.

Softball:

(1A) Chilhowie 12, Marion 2

Emma Morris struck out five in a complete game effort and Rachel Williams had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs for the Warriors.

Freshman Shayla Rowland added three hits for Chilhowie (4-2). Georgia Luttrell had a double, single and drove in a run.

Sarah Oakes, Judy Anderson and Shanna Thomas had two hits each for the 0-4 Scarlet Hurricanes.

Ridgeview 6, (1A) Eastside 0

Nikole Counts had three hits and drove in two runs, and also picked up the win by striking out 11 and walking just two in the Wolfpack's shutout of the Spartans.

Bailey Frazier had two hits and drove in a run for Ridgeview.

Wise Central 11, (1A) Rye Cove 1

Hannah Carter had four hits, including a home run and double, scored three runs and drove in four to lead the Warriors past the Eagles in six innings.

Jill Sturgill surrendered just three hits and two walks, while striking out 10.

Maggie Shell added three hits and Olivia Basham and Reagan Dotson had two apiece for the Warriors.

Ashley Smith had two of Rye Cove's three hits and scored the Eagles' lone run.

Softball:

Union 2, (1A) Twin Springs 0

Marleigh Duncan struck out 12 in pitching a four-hit shutout as the Union Bears blanked Twin Springs, 2-0, on Wednesday in a non-district softball clash.

Brooke Light had two hits in the win. Union scored both its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Gate City 6, (1A) Eastside 2

Sophomore Kiersten Quillen went 3-for-4 as Gate City remained unbeaten with a victory over the Eastside Spartans.

Kate Pendleton pitched a six-hitter for the Blue Devils (4-0), while Avery Johnson hit a first-inning home run.

(1A) Holston 11, Virginia High 1

Alyssa Milhorne, Claudia Frost and Abbey Conde each had two hits as the Holston Cavaliers vanquished Virginia High,

Jordan Lowe pitched a four-hitter for the Cavaliers.

Ridgeview 26, (1A) Twin Valley 1

Junior Camdyn Sykes went 4-for-5 with four RBIs as the Ridgeview Wolfpack trounced Twin Valley.

Hunter Grant (2-for-5, three RBIs) and Brooke Frazier (3-for-5, two RBIs) also keyed the big win.

Jessie Viers, Sam Ferrell, Hannah Boyd and Kamryn Vance had hits for Twin Valley.

Graham 15, Giles 5

Jocilyn Thompson struck out 12 in picking up the win in the circle, while also going 4-for-4 at the plate.

Rachael Rife and Malia Sloan added two hits apiece for the G-Girls.
 
March 28

Baseball:

Union 3, Daniel Boone (TN) 2

Cam Bartee pitched a four-hitter as Union opened the Bristol Fellowship of Christian Athletes baseball tournament with a 3-2 first-round win over Daniel Boone on Thursday at DeVault Stadium.

Union (4-0) scored all three of its runs in the third inning on RBIs from Nate Bailey, Landry Baker and Hunter Anderson.

Lee High 12, Wise County Central 8

Caleb Coleman had three RBIs, Cam Byington collected three hits and Tyler Tabor scored three runs as Lee High outslugged Mountain 7 District rival Wise County Central for a win in a consolation game of the Bristol Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament.

Lee led 12-2 after four innings and then withstood a late Central rally.

Landon Elkins (two RBis) and Daniel Lawson (three hits) were the leaders for the Warriors.

(3A) Abingdon 9, John Battle 0

The Falcons improved to 3-1 as sophomore Ethan Ketron struck out 10 en route to a three-hitter in the FCA tournament.

Tanner Barrs, Caleb Collins and Chase Hungate all collected two hits for Abingdon.

Softball:

Lebanon 13, Marion 1

Adrienne Morrison struck out 10 and allowed just two hits and Madison Varney and Haley Finney had home runs among Lebanion’s 15 hits in a Southwest District victory for the Pioneers.

Tatum Dye had three hits for Lebanon. Varney hit a three-run home run in the fourth. Finney had a solo blast in the same frame.

Sarah Oakes homered in the fourth for one of Marion’s two hits. Kaylee Holbrook also had a single for the Scarlet Hurricane.

Richlands 2, Science Hill (TN) 0

Mac Osborne pitched a three-hit shutout as Richlands blanked Science Hill in the preliminary round of the Eastman Invitational in Kingsport.

Savannah Stevenson tripled for the Blue Tornado, while Chloe Newberry and Ally Staten hit doubles in the win.
 
March 29:

Baseball:

(1A) Chilhowie 9, Fort Chiswell 8

The Chilhowie Warriors improved to 9-0 behind a five-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning to take a 9-8 non-district baseball victory over Fort Chiswell.

Ray Berry sparked the rally with a bases-loaded double to bring Chilhowie within 8-6. After two runs scored on an error, Alex Adams drove in the winning run with a single.

Adams and Berry collected two hits apiece.

Chilhowie opens Hogoheegee District play on April 4 at Patrick Henry.

Daniel Boone, TN 16, Gate City 5

Hunter Adams and Ben Allen each had three hits as Daniel Boone bopped Gate City in a consolation game of the Bristol Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament at Tod Houston Field.

Boone finished with 18 hits and also received 10 strikeouts from winning pitcher Preston Miller.

Isaac Vincent and Jon Compton each had two hits for Gate City.

(3A) Abingdon 13, Lee High 1

Sophomore Luke Francisco earned his first varsity decision as the Falcons rolled to another win in the FCA tournament.

Radford University signee Tanner Barrs homered and doubled for Abingdon while Chase Hungate drove in two runs on two hits.

John Battle 11, Wise County Central 5

Nolan Sailor drove in three runs as the John Battle Trojans topped Wise County Central in a consolation game of the Bristol Fellowship of Christian Athletes Tournament.

Sailor, Dylan Cunningham and Garrett Bowman each had two hits for Battle (2-4), while Landon Moore scored four runs. Zane Poe was the winning pitcher.

Central received two RBIs apiece from Landon Elkins and Bryson Collins.

Softball:

Fort Chiswell 10, (1A) Chilhowie 5


Rachel Williams and Shayla Roland contributed two hits apiece for Chilhowie in a losing effort.

Chilhowie collected a total of nine hits but the Warriors were doomed by six errors.

John Battle 11, (1A) Twin Springs 1

Sarah Musick drove in four runs on four hits as the Trojans cruised to a five-inning win.

Winning pitcher Hanna Jo McReynolds plated three runs on three hits.

Macon East, AL 4, Richlands 0

Richlands managed just two hits against defending Class AA Alabama state champion Macon East Montgomery in Eastman Invitational pool play.

Richlands 3, King’s Academy, TN 1

Junior Mac Osborne reached the 500 career strikeout mark as the Tornado downed The King’s Academy from Seymour, Tennessee.

Chloe Newberry and Ginger Short collected two hits apiece for Richlands while Osborne struck out seven in a two-hitter.
