Trailing by as many as 14, Team Loaded Virginia rallied for a thrilling 76-74 victory over Mass Rivals in the Adidas Uprising Summer Championship held at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Championship game, shown on live television on ESPNU, was played as the July live recruiting period for college coaches came to a close. Among the college coaches in attendance were Connecticut's Kevin Ollie, Stanford's Johnny Dawkins, Texas' Shaka Smart and others.
Named Player of the Game afterwards was Virginia Episcopal forward Sacha Killeya-Jones, who scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and added four rebounds and two blocks in 24 minutes off the bench. Previously committed to UVA, Killeya-Jones is rated a four-star prospect and #51 overall nationally in the Class of 2016 by Rivals.com.
Another strong contributor on the front-line for Team Loaded VA was St. Anne's-Belfield forward Javin DeLaurier. Though he missed all six of his free-throw attempts, DeLaurier had 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field and grabbed eight rebounds. He's ranked #40 overall nationally and a four-star by Rivals.com.
St. Christopher's shooting guard Nick Sherod provided a lift with his outside shooting and defense. He supplied 12 points on 3-of-9 shooting from long distance and had a team-high three steals. Justice Kithcart, a teammate of Killeya-Jones at VES, chipped in 10 points and four assists.
For Mass Rivals in defeat, Wenyen Gabriel put forth a dominant performance as he used his length and body control to battle the big front-line of Team Loaded VA. Another talent ranked in the Top 100 in the country by Rivals.com, Gabriel finished up with game-highs of 21 points and 13 rebounds.
