Red Pride Nation has already given us his take on this weekend's three games in another thread, but it kind of got buried among some other topics. So to start a fresh discussion and also clarify times, here is a new thread pertaining to the three games that will involve teams from our area. Hopefully someone will know in all three cases the exact time for the games so fans can plan.

Central Lunenburg at Riverheads: This one is most definitely a 7:00 Friday game. As for my thoughts on it, Central will definitely be a better team than Altavista turned out to be, but I still see a solid Big Red win. Central apparently gives up a ton of yardage and points, and I think it will come down to a case of Riverheads being able to move the ball at will, but yet having enough defense to keep the Chargers from doing the same thing. I predict a somewhat high scoring affair, but with RHS coming out on top by maybe 3 scores. Something in the 42-20 category.

Greensville at Buffalo Gap: I have not heard a time for this one, so hopefully someone can post it. But with UVa and Tech playing at noon, I would assume that only die hard fans would attend this one if it is a Saturday game. Hard one to predict but I will go with the Bison in a super close one. Here is how I arrived at that, convoluted as my thinking may be.......Riverheads beat Wilson by 35, as did Goochland. Therefore Riverheads and Goochland must have been fairly evenly matched this year. Riverheads beat Gap by 7 in the regular season but Goochland lost to Greensville by 3. Therefore Gap might be 4 points or so better than Greensville. Make any sense?

RE Lee at Clarke County: This is understandably the most intriguing of these three games because of the higher rankings the two have. On paper it looks like an all-out offensive explosion by both teams. I have read the usual stuff that the Bull Run was weak this year, etc. and that was possibly borne out by BG and Lee hammering two Bull Run opponents week before last. So I will go with the Leemen just on the assumption that they will have more firepower than anyone else Clarke has seen. No matter what happens in this one, Coach Girolmo deserves everyone's Coach of the Year vote this year, as they apparently do not even remotely resemble the team that RHS easily whipped on opening night. If the Leemen do win Friday, they will give the area a state semi-final home game to attend the following weekend, since the chances look better at this point that Riverheads and Buffalo Gap would both travel that weekend if they advance.

To look further ahead, and yes I know that you should NEVER do that in sports, but the mathematical possibility exists that we could have three Augusta County teams advance to Salem on the final weekend. Long shot yes, but boy would that EVER call attention to the caliber of play here in the area!

I see already that I outsmarted myself. Using my logic on the Gap/Greensville game, the visitors would be the ones favored by four, wouldn't they? So that is why comparing scores is usually not the way to go. But sometimes when you get to this point, that is all you have to go on!

Clarke and RE Lee play at 7pm Friday in Berryville. Lee won't be the most potent offense seen by Clarke this year, that was 4A Millbrook. Clarke gave up 20 points to Millbrook, less than what 4A West #1 seed Jefferson Forest gave up to Millbrook last week. Gilliam's Ratings shows that Lee has given up quite a few points, and to have given up 24 points to Strasburg is questionable, as Strasburg had the most anemic offense of all Bull Run teams from early October on after a number of players left that team. None of that matters though, as this should be an evenly matched game of high seeds, and whichever team wins, none should be surprised by the result.

The weather for Friday night is supposed to be in the 40's, with a little bit of wind.

I heard on the way out of BG Friday night a player telling his parents that it was official Greensville at Buffalo Gap at 2 pm Saturday. Take that for whatever you want

VHSL has posted the official 3rd Round pairings spreadsheet on their website and it does show both 2A East games as being played at 7pm on Friday.

Ok, since I was vague in the other post and am sure to get some feathers ruffled with my scores, here goes.
Lee will find a way to win against a very stout Clarke team by 13, 35-22. Better than advertised and certainly improved since earlier in this season.

Gap will be in a dog fight early but I think their size and commitment to what they do will wear down and frustrate Greenville. I see a big second half 35-13 Bison.

Now to G-ville, Riverheads faces a little adversity early but gets on track to pull out a hard fought 35-24 win. I think Lunenburg poses some challenges that are a little unique to them. We will see come Friday night.

Good luck to all and safe travels.
