Northwestern District play opens this week:
James Wood (4-1) vs. Sherando (5-0)
Skyline (2-2) vs. John Champe (4-0) EDIT: Schoolboard has informed me that the game is now on Thursday @ John Champe
Millbrook (3-2) vs. Rock Ridge (2-3)
Handley (0-4) @ Jefferson, WV (3-1)
Usually when Sherando and James Wood both have good teams, games end up being close right down to the wire. In years where the Warriors have been the better team overall, James Wood has still been able to keep it close, and in some cases pull off the upset. However, this year I find it hard to picture that happening, simply because of how no one has been able to run the ball on Sherando all year and James Wood's biggest strength has been the running game. I think Sherando takes off early and never looks back.
Sherando - 42
James Wood - 14
Skyline hosts an undefeated John Champe team this week. A couple years back, Skyline had a squad that could give plenty of 4A teams trouble. The Hawks aren't quite at that level this year, and Champe is riding high in the saddle, eyeing an undefeated season. That said, I think this could be a trap game for Champe. Wouldn't be surprised to see this be a widely unexpected close game.
John Champe - 38
Skyline - 17
Millbrook, coming off a tough 2OT loss at home last week looks to rebound against a newly minted Phoenix squad out of Ashburn. The Pioneers will be out for blood, and despite having 2 losses I think they're the second best team in the Northwestern. That thirst will be quenched this weekend with a big win at home to fire up the team and fans before they open up their district schedule next weekend.
Millbrook - 42
Rock Ridge - 17
Handley hopes to pick up their first win of the season on the road in the West Virginia panhandle this weekend. The Cougars won't be happy after getting blasted by Sherando last weekend, and like Millbrook, they'll be hoping to rebound. If any Judges fans are heading to the game, I hope to hear that it was a more balanced game than what the Warriors saw last week as far as officiating goes. I'm not usually one to make a fuss about referees, but it says something when even the players (on both sides of the field) look confused about the calls.
Handley - 14
Jefferson, WV - 35
