A three-game home sweep of Loudoun Valley, Powhatan, and Woodgrove last week has Sherando in the state playoffs for the second time in the 20 seasons of baseball at its school.

Now, its three more to go to get the ultimate: a state championship.

These kids have rose up and won close games when close games were hard to find during the regular season. Some might have thought that a cakewalk through the NWD (well, except for a few close ones with Millbrook) might cause this bunch to come in a little too high and unfocused. I guess that thought was laid to rest last week on Warrior Drive.

You had the big bats of Smallwood and Entsminger, the arms of these two, plus Whitacre, Loudan, and Bentley, and a defense that played pretty solid and made the plays.

Five made first-team all-Region II: Smallwood (catcher), Bentley (pitcher), Entsminger (outfield), Carney (second base), and Angel (first base).

Entsminger will toe the bump again tonight and he will be well pitcher-rested, with a full week off since going nine in a no-decision against LV. He will match up his 0.45 ERA from the r.s. and 7-0 record against a guy who is headed to VMI and is said to throw 91.

It's starts with Culpeper tonight, and I like Sherando's chances once again. I project they can have Bentley ready for Friday where a possible game awaits against that football school (Amherst) that knows something about making its own luck too in the playoffs this post season. Then, with a win there (which I like happening too), it's probably going to be Tunstall at 1 in the oven at Radford U's field on Saturday.

Three more to go for the Warriors. They are 23-1 so why not go with what Billy the Kid said in "Young Guns II" : I will finish the game.

Protect the Field. All fields, SHS.

Culpeper's Lafin on a good day may touch 85, he's not 91 and he is going to VMI for outfield. Hit like 7 batters in a game with Eastern View earlier this year, so he can be wild. But anything can and will happen. Murphy I think it is.

Just going on what I read in a article up my way this morning. I have not seen Lafin live. Sherando can hit up and down the lineup, but no one is having more step-up at bats right now than No. 19 and No. 8.

If Lafin hits a few tonight, he'll hear it from all points of that park.

Sure, anything can happen. But Sherando is on a roooooooooooll!

Entsminger was quoted in The Star this morning as saying he will get the call on the hill tonight. Whichever guy pitches, I am sure they are in good shape. I imagine Bodie has a plan in place that works best for the squad. Amherst is said to be able to hit, and perhaps the more lively arm of Bentley will work best to counter that. Plus a lefty with hard cheese and quality off-speed stuff is difficult for opposing teams to manage against anyway. JB was first-team all-region and the NWD pitcher of the year, after all.

Good luck to whoever toes the rubber for the Tribe.
