I've been checking out CalPrep's top 1000 lists from 2003-2014 and it's interesting.

From 2003 to 2007 the most VHSL schools to ever finish in the top 1000 was 21 in 2005. Since then (2008-2014) There have been at least 25 VHSL schools in the list.

Here's the number of teams by year:
2003 19
2004 20
2005 21
2006 14
2007 18

2008 30
2009 32
2010 26
2011 29
2012 27
2013 26
2014 25

unfortunately, the trend has been back downwards the last few years, however...
The past three years we have placed three teams in the top 100, while 1 was the norm before that
(we did place 2 teams in 2007, 2008, and 2010)

Maybe more exciting, and the reason I chose this board for the post, is that our 4A/Div 4 champ has now made the top 100 three years in a row. Only once before (Amherst in 2007) had a D4 team cracked the top 100. The past two years the 4A champ actually placed higher than the 5A champ. Our 4A teams put quite a few in the top 1000 this year:
56 Lake Taylor
379 Salem
494 Monacan
910 Liberty
936 Dinwiddie

While a rating system is worth about as much as any other opinion, it is objective and it seems to think our 4A schools are getting better and better.
