Wm Campbell ran only 19 plays last night, but scored on 6 of them, beating Central Lunenburg 45-12. WC had 14 runs for 284 yards and 4 for 4 passing for 173 yards. Meanwhile Central ran the ball 66 times for 225 yards. When a team runs ball 66 times they should lose.

Salem Spartans prove year in and year out that you don't have to run Spread to win the title!
That is true Mascot. Salem has a good team every year. I don't know their "secret", but whatever they have going works. As a program they are probably strongest in state at any level.
HR6, what was the young man #6 that played for Gretna when they came to RH and whipped us in the playoffs? He was a difference maker and you could see he was another level type player. I am almost positive he played both ways with his play on D being a huge factor. Tons of respect to him and as fine a ball game as I have ever witnessed. Certainly didn’t like the outcome but it was a great game.
It's pretty amazing considering Salem is not a hotbed of raising elite athletes. Just not in the DNA here. I would say after living here for 37 years that it's because of very hard work in the off season, established winning tradition (losing is not acceptable), team first concept, great coaching, and a community that comes out to games which provides very good resources. Until two years ago, I don't believe any player under the current coach had been offered a D1 scholarship in high school and I can't remember any under Willis White. (maybe Marcus Parker VT??) That says right there what you need to know. Pretty much every other team they play and usually beat in the playoffs has several. A few Salem players went on the earn scholarships as walk on's., but it just shows that the extraordinary can be accomplished with the ordinary if everyone works to a common cause.
He was #8, Tony Miller. He went to Concord University where he started at tight end as freshman. A back injury ended his playing career after 1 season.
That’s a shame. Young man was a phenomenal athlete.
