Top 10

Dang did Glenvar take a tumble with the loss to a quality Allegheny team? Good list by the way but I just don’t see Poquoson that high. They are good for sure but they have several wins over less than average teams. I expect them to host and potentially represent the A/B side but I am not as impressed by this team as last years in what little I have seen of them.

I hear ya RedPride. Glenvar got a whooping on them by Alleghany, but I think Alleghany would beat every Class 2 team in VA this year including Graham. As for Poquoson I would push back a little on schedule. I think teams like York, Grafton, Tabb, Smithfield, Lake Taylor are very athletic and if they played the scheduled of us and were Class 2 (Radford) or a Central Woodstock or a Graham or Glenvar or Clarke County, these teams like Smithfield, Lake Taylor, York, Grafton, Tabb, Smithfield, even New Kent would be 8 and 2 type teams, 7 and 3 at worst. I think Poquosons schedule is pretty difficult.

I think Strasburg is the best of the bunch up there but pretty close. For 1 game though, hard to pick against Riverheads and with Clarke, Strasburg, Riverheads, Buckingham, FD, and Draft and Central, no surprise if Riverheads is the last team standing in the Region, but if they all played each other 10 times, I think Strasburg would end up with the most wins.

@Fairlawncat I agree that’s why I was surprised with them not being further up the list. That Alleghany team is for real. Sucks they have to be in the same region as LCA but they have a punchers chance there I suppose.

I think there are tiers this year.
Union/Glenvar/Graham/ potentially Poquoson

Then there’s Strasburg/ Riverheads/Bruton/Lebanon/CC/maybe a Buckingham/ maybe Draft (will know this week)

Then alot that are right there and have a chance on most nights they would play the second tier.

The biggest fall from grace imo in region B has to have been Fort. They had a tough schedule early then got the win they needed over Riverheads only to have the injury bug take a big part of their offense away. They are still dangerous but not quite as diverse as when they were at full strength.

Either way there is a lot of good football being played in class 2 but not a lot of great football which to me means that the race is more wide open this year. We could all make a case for the teams listed and why they may hoist the trophy or conversely get put out in their own region, lol.

I agree with everything you wrote. I think Riverheads, Strasburg, Buckingham County Clarke, Poquoson, Glenvar, Graham, and Union, 8 teams are with 10 pts of each other and probably within 5 points of each other for most of those 8 teams and its more wide open that at any time in over a decade for a state champion. As many as 8 teams and if any of the 8 above won it, it's no upset or surprise at all.

There are dangerous teams out there lurking with talent also. Southampton is one of them teams that few out west or up in the Valley are familiar with. They are Loaded with talent. K William loads of talent and Gretna and even a young Radford Bobcat team has solid talent.

It'd so wide open to me that a Southampton or King William or Bruton beating Poquoson wouldn't be a giant shocker and same for Radford in C or Gretna stealing a win over Glenvar and even Ridgeview stealing won over Graham and Union. Graham and Union are better than RV, but the divide/the gap is not so far or wide this year that RV couldn't get hot and actually win the region. Same probably applies to a Fort Defiance up in B.

Just wide open.

As was stated this year seems wide open. This week in Region B will tell us a lot. But then again these teams could face each other again in just a few weeks. I watched the union Ridgeview game. Union is tough. Would not shock me if there not in the final 4. As far as region B goes SD has a chance to make a statement against riverheads. When was the last time they beat them? But right now I see a final 4 in region B of Strasburg CC Riverheads and Buckingham. But a lot of football left

Biggest issue with King William is penalties. Talent is there but they shoot themselves in the foot to much

I was at the KW Central game. KW had to have had 150 yds in penalties. If not for them I think they beat Central.

Graham is having the same issues. that and struggling to find an offensive identity could spell disaster for them come playoff time.

Heard there was a lot of penalties in the Union game. If they meet again, how do you see second game going?

The penalties are still an issue, they had 120 yards in penalties against Lebanon. The defense is the best that Graham has had since probably 1989. I can say that with confidence. Graham has sort of a history the past few years of being sloppy, undisciplined at times throughout the season, only to put it together come playoff time. If Graham plays sloppy and undisciplined against Union if they meet a 2nd time, I expect another down to the wire game, simply because the defense won't give up much. If Graham gets their act together, I expect Graham to win by 2 or more scores

Also, Turner Ashby and Heritage-Lynchburg in that region. Very tough region for sure.
