Well for a few years blaster was doing something along these lines and there are two other subjects that are worn out so I figured to start a different discussion. List your preseason top ten and your projected finishing order. I will start:

Preseason
1. Riverheads
2. Chilhowie
3. Essex
3. Galax
5. Rappahannock
6. Patrick Henry GS
7. Northumberland
7. Franklin
8. Narrows
9. William Campbell
10. George Wythe

Projected
1.Galax
2. Riverheads
3. Rappahannock
3. Patrick Henry GS
5. Essex
6. William Campbell
7. Sussex
8. George Wythe
9. W&L
10. Narrows

Its just speculative but I feel Galax will be much stronger this year after another off season in their new system.
Rapp is being lauded on here as the real deal and have a Jr QB that was highly praised last year, so I will ride along without having seen them myself.
Patrick Henry had a stud RB last year and wont have to deal with Chilhowie since they had a large senior class having graduated so they should handle region D.
That's where it gets tricky for me. I am sold that you will never have to worry about Essex not at least being in the hunt so they are right there.
William Campbell has a young core and showed me flashes of what could be in the playoff game against Riverheads.
Sussex fans have been pointing to this year and the next as being when they make a run but its tough to jump from 2-3 wins all the way to region contenders, just my opinion.
GW reloads and makes another run but probably wont compete with the Galax's of the world just yet.
W&L is my random pick because I think I read that they have a new RB coming in that's a good compliment to what they like to do, could be way out in left field here but oh well.
Narrows was a surprise making it to play Galax last year and unless graduation hit them extremely hard, they should be considered to make another run.

That's my stab at it and I welcome criticism for my list. Just wanted to actually talk about some football instead of the other topics.

****had to edit because I had forgot that Franklin had a very good year before losing in the first round. Losing Ford will hurt though so I don't see quite as good a year in 2019.

Northumberland lost a lot so it will be interesting to see how they bounce back. Essex will always be in the mix. Did Rapp lose any starters? I'm pretty sure the RB was a SR, but I am not sure of others. My sleeper is W&L.

There was another quality WR for NHS last year too. Made some great catches in the playoff game vs WP. Did he graduate?

1. Rappahannock
2. Riverheads
3. Galaxy
4. Gw
5. Sussex
6. Essex
7.WC
8. W&L
9.Patrick Henry
10. Franklin

Rapp will potentially (don't count your all your eggs until they hatch) return their whole offensive line, QB, and 2nd/3rd leading WR from last year. So basically 8 out of 11 starters on offense/defense.
Essex will have some athletes but they will fall off a bit on the offensive/defensive lines. Also my question about them is what type of offense will they run? With a weak line it might not be feasible to run what they did last year and they won't have time to sit back and pass. Might be spread with all quick hitters.
W&L is a NND darkhorse but they also lost some talent on their interior. If they can find a decent QB to make teams respect their pass game they might have a say in who wins the NND title.
CB Will have a stud in Davis but not much after that. How did their JV do last year?
NHS has some young talent coming up but not sure if they are gonna be able to compete with the upper tier in the NND.
LHS is still rebuilding.

Preseason:
1. Riverheads
2. Galax
3. Essex
4. GW
5. Patrick Henry
6. Sussex
7. West Point
8. William Campbell
9. W&L
10. Rappahannock

Although I think Rappahannock will finish higher than where I have them listed, they need to prove it on the field like the rest of these teams have been known to do.

I honestly do not see anyone hanging with them again this season in D1. I'm curious to see how Essex, Sussex and Franklin progress throughout the season. Will the Essex community embrace and nurture the wing T? Will Sussex be back to their old ways? Franklin got shocked last season in the first round, will they be back?

Essex has been doing wing off and on since 2011ish I believe. We’ve just been using it more over the last 3 or so years. The last time we had a serious passing game was 2015. Since then, our passing game has been a work in progress. I’m hoping this year that Essex has developed the QB & WR positions. Not sure who will be the main RB this year. Last year Banks and Day helped out KJ Dameron (ODU commit). Day & Banks would be good at WR or slot. If Essex can get that passing game going, it will open things up again.

Time to bump this by adding some context. What are you thinking as for regular season record of the top ten?

1. Galax 8-2
2. Riverheads 8-2
3. Rappahannock 9-1
3. Patrick Henry GS 10-0
5. Essex 7-3
6. Wm Campbell 7-3
7. Sussex 9-1
8. GW 8-2
9. W&L 7-3
10. Narrows 8-2

Franklin 7-3, Grayson Co 7-3, Northumberland 6-4, Colonial Beach 6-4 to name a few others that were mentioned.

@Scagmowers, please forgive me as I am not picking on your list in particular, just using it to restart the debate. I can see Grayson Co having a good record and may replace Narrows but I don't think they will beat GW or Galax in that region to take their spot. and Chilhowie will drop like Hurley did after the great class they had come through a few years ago that was competitive. That is not meant to be disrespectful at all but I didnt see underclassmen scoring in blowout games last year so the seniors played deep into most games, or at least thats the perception. On to Franklin and the fact they may surprise me and be the team to beat this year but I don't think they are quite as good as last year losing their big playmaker.

In my opinion, Patrick Henry GS will be a handful for Galax and that's about the extent of the high end teams in the west. I could certainly be wrong but history is saying that it has been a two or three team race out that way lately. As to the east, well that is a discussion that should include Rapp, Riverheads, Essex, Sussex and potentially Wm Campbell. Anyone coming out of the east side better be ready to strap it up and butt heads though cause I just have a feeling about Galax and/or PH this year.

Narrows loses a few key players including a great QB. But return nearly the whole defense. The weight program has really paid off the last few years. This year will possibly be the fastest team Narrows has ever had. Really hard nosed line too. Should be a really good run for the Greenwave.

Galax in west, Essex, Sussex, Rapp., CB or Franklin in east. Auburn may have a good year in the west if qb stays healthy but won’t contend for state.

Region A will be a toss up, but I'm giving a slight edge to Rappahannock based on them returning their entire line and Gaines at qb.
Region B until further notice is Riverheads' to lose.
Region C, Galax looks to be the favorite.
Region D, I'm not as familiar with, but I've heard PH-Glade Springs returns two 1000 yard rushers as well as others. With Chilhowie losing so much, it could be the Rebels year in Region D.

Looks like I here is a growing consensus that it is Rapp’s year to shine in region A. I don’t have a dog in the hunt in A so I didn’t want to cloud the waters in that discussion in another thread about the demise of Essex but I am still not counting them out even after losing their impact back. Good coaching staff there that will find a way to get them deep into the playoffs.

As for D, there are plenty of people on the SWVA board still ringing the bell for Chilhowie to once again represent that region. I may be in left field but the horsepower PH GS is bringing back might prove to be way too much for anyone to handle including the “East” representative. I have also read where Grayson county will come to 1A and curb stomp and their region and potentially further. I am here to tell you that isn’t happening. They will finish with a great record and may even play until they meet up with PH or a retooled Chilhowie, but that’s where the run ends.

Galax is sitting in the catbirds seat with almost an assured appearance in the region finals. Narrows could challenge if they reload at positions that graduated but other than an other worldly performance from a PM, GW or Auburn it’s those two then the rest.

Region B has the makings of having the most balance with Riverheads, Sussex, Franklin and William Campbell all making a case for why they will represent.

All in all if we believe the hype, it’s a two horse race in all but one region. Can the last week of August get here any quicker?

Grayson will be lucky to win 3-4......lost too much last 2 years and very little coming. Just do not see them factoring in.....

Grayson was two players away from being a really bad team last year. Namely the Hollingsworth kid at QB. Both are gone. They will be competitive and win games but will not curb stomp anyone.

@Optimal62, fair enough. There have been a few posts suggesting their move down will increase the win total and that they are suited to make a run in 1A. I agree with your assessment though and think it is likely a long shot.

@kwhs95fan, that’s a very good take on the top ten. My thoughts are that PHGS is absolutely gonna be a beast this year but top 5 is reasonable.
