Conference 37: 1. Appomattox
2. Chatham
3. Randolph-Henry
4. Dan River
5. Buckingham

Conference 38:
1. Giles
2. Martinsville
3. James River
4. Glenvar
5. Floyd

Those top two finishers will play each other in first round of region. My pick is Giles and James River playing Appomattox and Chatham.

Clinch Mountain Conference Boys:

Today:
7 Ridgeview at 2 John Battle
6 Lee High at 3 Union
5 Gate City at 4 Wise Central

Thursday:
Senifinals at Sugar Hollow Park (Bristol)
1 Lebanon vs winner of Gate City vs. Wise Central
Winner of Ridgeview vs. John Battle vs. winner of Lee High vs. Union

Friday:
Finals at Sugar Hollow Park (Bristol)

The Girls bracket listed in the paper doesn't make sense because it has Honaker at Gate City in the opening round. Honaker isn't in the Clinch Mountain and isn't even 2A at that.

Girls 1A and 2A are combined. There is some confusion in the conferences as a result

Okay, in that case then:

Clinch Mountain Conferecne girls:

Today:
8 Ridgeview at 1 John Battle
5 Union at 4 Lee High
7 Honaker at 2 Gate City

Honaker/Gate City winner vs. Lebanon/Wise Central winner

Friday Finals at Sugar Hollow Park:

Glenvar beat Floyd in the 4/5 last night, so they will face off with Giles on Wednesday at 5:30. The match I really want to see is after though. James River v. Martinsville!
Still two conferences that didn't submit a bracket to VHSL!? What is with that? Tournament directors are paid a stipend (small, but still paid for it). DO YOUR JOB!
George Mason and Clark County will be in action tonight as well (not against each other...not yet). That should tournament to watch as well.

Bunch of good games on tonight!
James River v. Martinsville: For me this is the match of night! I a good "who wants it more" game is coming.
Giles v. Glenvar: That last 8-0 result isn't fooling anyone. Glenvar gave Giles a fit at home. This could be tighter than some expect.
Graham v. Richlands: Rivals go at it on neutral turf (literally). Should be a fun one.
Appomatox v. Dan River: Dan River could be the sleeper...I don't think so, but just watch
Randolph-Henry v. Chatham: Two very solid teams who know how play one another.

That was a very good game last night. I think James River was a bit too timid up top. However, I love the structure and discipline in that team. They always keep shape. Martinsville is an athletic team for sure (big, strong, and fast), but they really only have four true soccer players. The others do just enough to keep the ball on their feet.
I think they will give Giles a fit today though. Giles really struggled to find solid footing last night, and Glenvar gave them all they wanted and more. Three excellent back-to-back saves kept the shutout alive. Hoping for a good matchup tonight, but who knows. Those fields are nice and wide which is really what both teams should want. Won't make this one though...but I'll have someone texting me for sure.

Oh, and Virginia High beats Grayson 8-0. They are going to be a quality teamt in Regional play.
George Mason wins. Clarke County upset by Central.
Graham beat Richlands 4-1. So Graham and VA High will face off in the final.

JR was flatfooted at the start of both halves which unfortunately cost them the game. At times they weren't as aggressive as they should have been either. Hate it for the group of sr's to have to exit early they have been true leaders for the younger guys. I look for a physical game tonight for the championship. personally i hope Giles gets the W.

I have seen a few flatfooted starts this season around the area. I hate this one caught up with JR. I actually thought Giles started the 2nd half the same yesterday as well. Radford does this too. Lack of focus? Not the right warmup? I don't know.

Here is who I have in the Regional 2A Tournament so far, Please add any updates that you know of.
East:
Conference 33: Maggie Walker and Bruton (Final on Friday @MW)
Conference 34: Prince Edward and Goochland (Final on Friday @ PE)
Conference 35: Mason and Central-Woodstock (Mason won the final 7-0)
Conference 36: R.E. Lee and Stuarts Draft (R.E. Lee won the final 2-1)
West
Conference 37: Appomattox and Chatham (Final Friday @ Appomattox}
Conference 38: Giles and Martinsville (Final was tonight @ Smith River)
Conference 39: Virginia High and Graham (no details)
Conference 40: Lebanon and John Battle (Final Friday @ Sugar Hollow

Giles won 6-2 over Martinsville last night.
Graham's site shows they go to Lebanon and play Lebanon on Monday. I really have no idea if that is correct though...I mean Lebanon hasn't won conference yet. And Graham plays tonight at 7:15.

If it's anything like how the basketball tournament works, then Lebanon won regular season title and automatically gets the Clinch Mountain #1 seed regardless of Clinch Mountain tournament outcome. Which means hosting the Southern Empire #2 seed which is Graham. (Virginia High won the regular season title) Kinda confusing, but that's how basketball works, and I'm positive that's how all the other sports work as well with the exception of football, of course.

So, regular season champ represents regionals as the conference's #1 seed.
Tournament champ (or runner up if the regular season champ also wins the tournament) represents regionals as the conference's #2 seed.

I'll use us as an example. Ridgeview won the Clinch Mountain Regular season title in girls basketball. Regardless of how we done in the conference tournament, we already knew we would host a regional game as the #1 seed out of the CMC.

Coach_S, I am pretty certain that the CMC and SEC (39 and 40) finals are a doubleheader tonight at Sugar Hollow Park in Bristol.

There are two fields there, and I think that the girls finals will be played on one field, while the boys finals will be played on the other.

That isn't how soccer works in other conferences I know. Giles won the conference outright, but had to win last night to secure the regional 1 seed. Same for Auburn and Radford in 1A. I think conferences can all kind of decide on their own though, because I know they did all use that when districts were a thing. I can remember Galax winning MED regular season then resting everyone in the tournament finals.

In the CMC girls tournament, John Battle defeated Lee High 4-1 and plays Wise Central today in the finals after Central disposed of Gate City 1-0.

Battle won the regular season title, so both Battle and Central advance to regional play.

Yeah, conferences decide to do whatever they want to do for any insane reasons they want. In Conference 35 the regular season is completely useless. The winner of the conference does not even get a region bid even though all teams play each other twice during the season. Regular season is only used for seeding in the tournament. Only the tournament final teams move on.

Looks Like One end will be:
Martinsville at Chatham
Appomattox at Giles
The other (I believe) will go: (Also I think they start play today)
Graham at Lebanon
John Battle at Virginia High

West Tourney after round one:
Graham over Lebanon 4-2
Giles over Appomattox 4-0
Martinsville over Chatham: 6-4
VA High over John Battle: 6-1

So Graham and Giles will face off for the third time this season. The first two were tough matches with Giles narrowly pulling wins. This third will be a real toss up game.
Martinsville and VA High is intriguing. I'm going to go Martinsville thanks to homefield.

Martinsville falls 1-0 to VHS.

And while I understand your meaning above about home field advantage, technically that is not MHS's home field.

Semantics just piss people off...we all know that field is an advantage...actually very pleased they lost. The behavior of those kids after the game was ridiculous. Giles falls to Graham 1-0 in nearly identical fashion. The only difference being no tantrums post-game.

Not sure what behavior went on since i was not present but kids should be taught to win with class and lose the same way. Some kids know how and some don't. It's up to the coaches with support of the parents to teach that to the players. Unfortunately its sometime a reflection of the the parents or the coach.

The coach did send the players away, but this was after he began taunting and trying to start a fight at midfield after the whistle. Also did anyone hear those Martinsville assistants? Get rid of them and the kids may act better! I also want to say that Graham played and behaved in a much more respectable style this time out. I had preached against them for this same type of ethics earlier in the year, and it was in no way present in players, coaches, or fans last night.

Early word is that Virginia High beat Graham on PK's today. Now to wait and see with the George Mason game tonight.
