Undefeated Football teams remaining in Virgina at the Midway point...

I was wondering how many teams are still undefeated at this midway point (for most teams anyway) across all of Virginia 1A to 6A.

Well (by my quick review) I counted 34 Virginia teams left with unblemished records. I hope that is the correct number. I was just going to do the East (that was in Richmond paper), but decided to check all. Thought some readers may find it interesting. Let me know if I missed any.

1A East - Riverheads, Northumberland, Sussex
1A West- Galax, Patrick Henry, Hurley
2A East - Goochland, Stuarts Draft
2A West- Appomattox, Richlands, Dan River, Grundy, Lee
3A East - Brentsville, Phoebus, Park View
3A West - Lord Botetourt
4A East - Dinwiddie, Louisa, Powhatan, Eastern View, Lafayette
4A West -Woodgrove, Amherst

There are another 10 undefeated teams in 5A and 6A which do a North - South split.

Which teams have the best chance to go undefeated throughout the regular season? Playoffs? Who will get knocked out of the undefeated ranks this weekend? How many out of the 34 teams will go 10-0? Any other thoughts?

Appomattox and Dan River play this week so at least one will lose their first game. Louisa and Powhatan also play this week as does Hurley and Grundy.I follow 1A and 2A and the Richmond schools so can't speak on most of the teams listed.

Oh and Sussex and Park View play tomorrow as well. A lot of matchups between undefeated this week

Here's my take on the SWVA teams. I don't really follow east of Montgomery county.

1a west ***
I don't think anyone on their schedule can beat Hurley. I'd put $100 on Hurley going 10-0.

Galax has a tough game vs Graham. I think Graham has the talent edge onGalax but it's hard to bet again Mark Dixon and his group. 9-1 or 10-0.

Patrick Henry will lose to George Wythe and finish 9-1, maybe 8-2 if chilhowie beats them

2A west ***
Grundy loses this week to Hurley and again to Richlands probably 8-2 - maybe 7-3 if Tazewell gets them.

Lee County should lose to Union this week. Maybe lose to gate city and possibly to VA high or Marion. Probably end up 7-3

Richlands has one tough game left @ Abingdon. Richlands "should" win this game but I think Abingdon matches up well and they are a lot better than they showed last week losing by 3 TD's to Graham. So that's 10-0 or 9-1 for Richlands.




Hurley has the best shot to end up 10-0. I would give Richlands a 75% chance of ending up 10-0. Galax is a coin flip.

Goochland and maybe Riverheads, even though a few fans on here don't sound too confident on a 10-0 record.

Riverheads and Stuarts Draft each have games this week in which they will be favored, but yet it is not a done deal in either case. But if they both win, they should have clear sailing until they meet each other on the final night of the regular season.
