We are also suffering from a pretty popular kid (senior) that was our starting Catcher for past 2 seasons. Our football team has several players on it that play baseball as well and it deeply affected them waking up Saturday morning hearing the news.

Really puts things in perspective. High school sports really is not really important in terms of things like what Appomattox and Union are going through. Prayers for both Appomattox and Union as they both mourn the loss of life. Big props to both communities as you both have handled things as best as possible....

Prayers to everyone from both schools with their losses. It is really sad when people lose ones close to them. A few years back, we lost one of my god daughters to a rare genetic disease. Still hurts every day to this day. But I am glad I will get to see her again some day. God has a plan for each of us, even though at times we simply cannot understand

To have someone taken from you in this manner is unimaginable for me. This is simply something that is incredibly rare for this rural, relatively quite area.

The Appomattox family just suffered another tragedy, and was receiving thoughts, prayers, and condolences from our community as well as many others. To have them turnaround and send out such concern back to us so graciously is truly a blessing.

The towns of Appalachia and Big Stone Gap appreciate any and all prayers for this family.

Thanks to all!!

I know what you mean. When the Looneys were murdered at the Pizza Plus in Claypool Hill about 7-8 years ago, it was the talk of the county. That stuff never happens down here. I can't imagine what she is going through.

As someone who had to go through this during his playing days in high school. This is something that really puts life into perspective. It is not always about the wins and losses on the field. They are great and everything, but life is just to short to get caught up in the stuff that really has no effect on your life after high school. These two tragic events will stick with these students for the rest of their lives. No parent should ever have to bury their child and it is senseless that someone lost their life at the hands of another person. Us posters here on preps can get pretty heated at times towards one another but at the end of the day it is just something to pass the time that has no real effect on our lives. Sure we feel great when our team wins and we feel the sorrow of defeat but that goes away. The pain these two great communities are feeling right now will last a life time. Remember you never know when the good lord is going to call you home so live your life to the fullest and with no regret because it could all be gone tomorrow. TO THE COMMUNITIES OF UNION AND APPOMATTOX STAY STRONG FOR EACH OTHER THROUGH THESE TRAGIC EVENTS. PRAYERS COMING FROM STRASBURG VIRGINIA TO BOTH COMMUNITIES.

Thank you all for the prayers for our communities of Big Stone Gap and Appalachia. We also have been praying for the passing of the student in Appomattox.

Yes, it does make football take a backseat when something like this happens.

It was reassuring to me last Saturday night on the field at Appomattox, following the game, when the entirety of both teams took a knee in the center of the field and prayed. I have never been more proud of our young men and I gained a true respect for the Raiders and their fans. Thank you all!
