Got the score from two of the parents (Facebook official).....Mathews over Northumberland in Heathsville......32-14. Anyone see that one coming?????

I wouldn't call it surprising. If Mathews stuck to their guns and used their power game and kept the ball out of Northumberland's hands, its highly possible.
I would call it surprising that any 1A team beat a northern neck team.

This was by far the biggest surprise/upset in the old Region A area. First, congrats to Mathews, they evidently came to play, things went their way, and they put it on. Mathews scored early on a wide open pass, then got ball back quickly, scored again. Then the shock set in for one club and the confidence set in for the underdog.

On paper, I would have said NHS 42-7. But that's why they play the game....

Now, do you learn from it and come out stronger...or does negativity take over?

Neck play soon begins.

This will be a strengthening game for Northumberland. Everyone projected a 5-0 start for the squad and I think most of the players thought so too. It's been a long two weeks for the Indians. Second the loss of a key RB can hurt too as well as some injuries. Being a big Northumberland guy I'll give Mathews credit they scored early then, the unexpected onside kick to later score again put the Indians behind the eight ball and wasn't the same from then on. Hope to see a rebound against Middlesex next week.

According to my ratings this is the most surprising upset in the last 17 seasons. The fact that it ended up being by 21 points just makes it more astounding. The game was so surprising I triple checked to make sure there wasn't a mistake.
