Richlands is up 10-6 on Union at the end of 3 . That defense of theirs is outstanding.

I heard Grayson was 25-21 on Ridgeview in the 4th, anybody got an update for sure?

Ridgeview drove the ball down to Grayson county's 5 yard line and threw a pass with around 20 seconds to go. Grayson intercepted the ball in the end zone to win it.

Did 82 or 2 intercept?

Dang it Richlands totally let me down tonight. Looks like alot of teams left their game at home tonight.

Not sure, I was just following along on twitter to Ridgeview's account. They did not seem to think very highly of the referees tonight.
Referees we're horrible both ways... Alot of calls went Ridgeviews way. Well most actually. Grayson player popped the ball loose on a kick return and Grayson recovered so guess what they did??? Rekicked twice!!! Refs were horrible. Alot of other too but most crucial went Ridgeviews way. Hope they complain to the VHSL because they will be told they got lucky it wasn't worse than it was.

I think it is amazing how Union and Richlands have all them great games! Awesome Rivalry there!!! One of the best in state and seems to never disappoint.

It really is a fantastic rivaly between the 2 ! Great respect between the teams and fans and they both play hard, but play clean..........so much fun to watch these 2 play each year !
Good luck to Union the rest of the way ! Much respect to Appo also for going for a possible 3 in a row !

No offense, but as a Graham fan, I'd rather be playing at Mitchell on Thanksgiving Weekend. Need help from Marion of course. Never been to Bullitt, but if the G men make it, I'll surely be there. God willing and the creeks don't rise.

Worst officiated game ever. Grayson County got a gift. Hope they have enough money left over to pay the stripes for Graham. That's the only way they stay within 40 of them.

17 penalties total. Ridgeview 13, Grayson County 4. Your point is invalid and your team are classless jerks... cheering an injured player. Pathetic. I hope Graham rolls you by 80.

To add further, one of the officials was arrested and charged with two counts of assault and battery for fighting with 2 Ridgeview fans after the game.

I've followed this site for a number of years but have never felt compelled to join and/or participate. I am active on another forum dedicated to athletics in SWVA. My reputation over there should be familiar to some over here. I now feel compelled to respond given the quoted material above.

According to the official box score in the newspaper, there were 15 total penalties, not 17. Grayson had 7 for a total of 70 yards while Ridgeview had 8 for a total of 81 yards. So, yeah, jdphil2's point is pretty valid.

Also, while two wrongs never make a right, Ridgeview fans fighting with referees following the game says as much or more about some Ridgeview fans than it does Grayson or the officiating crew.

Not an attempt to argue but facts matter!

I respect your takes sixcat. Always have. I am going by what I read, so someone is off somewhere. And I would tend to agree with you that the official probably didn't START the altercation... but he was the one arrested. So, let me ask this... you're from the area, do Grayson County fans always cheer when an opposing player gets hurt?

When Haysi played Galax those two years in the playoffs, there was so much respect shown between both programs. The first year, when the Galax player was med-flighted out, all of us on the Haysi side and the players were all very concerned.

That’s what happens when you think you should win but don’t. People get mad because they ask themselves. What just happened, we were supposed to win this game. Who’s fault is it?? When you win the kids did their job. When you lose, the coach didn’t do his.

Most people from this area are respectful and responsible adults. However, as with any community, there will always be the exception to the rule. To be honest, I would be shocked if Grayson had more than two dozen fans make the trip to Dickenson County. If we were talking about baseball, that may be a different story but support for athletics in Grayson County isn't what it used to be.

Ask anyone from Galax, myself included, and you will likely find everyone misses the opportunity to face Haysi. Those two programs only played twice but each brought out the absolute best in the other. I would still love to see Dixon's running game and line play meshed with Colley's passing attack. That hypothetical team would be unstoppable!

As for the box score. Craig Worrell with the Galax Gazette is tough to beat. He is thorough, accurate and as unbiased as they come. I did cross check the Gazettes box score with the Bristol Herald Courier. The Bristol paper had Grayson down for 7 for 70 as did Craig. Bristol had Ridgeview down for 10 for 90 while Craig had 8 for 81.

Still a pretty evenly called game regardless of how bad the evenness was.

Did they not play at Ridge view?

I think the moment you're referring to happened during a kickoff just before the half. As the Ridgeview player returned the ball, he was hit and fumbled which was recovered by GC. However the official blew an inadvertent whistle before the recovery. The players were cheering the fumble recovery not the injured player. Once they realized the player was hurt they all took a knee on the sideline and clapped once the young man got up if you look back. This was what began the 3 back to back kickoffs, which was really poor officiating. (Should have been RV ball from that spot.)

I can say that their was a lot of respect for Ridgeview from GC players and fans. It was a chippy game but it was 2 teams battling to keep their season going. Ridgeview played very physical and has a lot of talent. I wish the officiating would have been better for everyone. Too much break in the flow of the game. The RV folks I talked to after the game were very nice and the facilities were amazing.

Thank you sir for posting this. I apologize for not seeing the whole story. I was looking at the injured player trying to get a number. This makes me feel bad now. Even worse than I did already.

I as a long time GC fan appreciate that and wish nothing but the best for Ridgeview. It's the playoffs, tensions are high, folks kids are involved, it's intense. I've been on the other side a lot and know the frustration. I just wanted to give a little more info because with those officials nobody on top of that mountain knew what was going on. You guys have great football tradition and will have a heck of a team next year too.
